Theoretically I could cover the stake for half the potential profit by laying off on Betfair which, I guess, is what a professional would do... but it's just a throwaway bet for me. The key was to get on while he was playing last night. While he didn't necessarily look like winning at the time I bet he was getting under Anderson's skin and playing at a level that suggested his odds would be cut significantly, win or lose. At it happens he won so the confidence boost coupled with the fact that his game has improved significantly in recent months makes him a live outsider for the WC.

TBH, it was great to see Anderson get some payback... not that long ago since he slagged Price off for not being able to "beat a man with a bad back" and during the week he had another little dig, suggesting that Clayton is the best Welsh player in the world. What goes round....

I didn't like him this time last year. In fact, I woulda put Jamie Lewis in the premier league before him but I'm kinda coming round to his ability to rattle cages and, to be fair, he's starting to back up the bravado with some decent throwing. I wanted him to beat Anderson simply because he didn't rise to the "bad back" or "best Welsh player" comments... at the end of the day he let his darts do the talking. Even after the win, 99 out of 100 players in that position woulda made reference to Anderson's inability to beat a man with a torn hamstring but he even resisted that, cleverly (IMO) getting further inside Anderson's head by simply saying he couldn't handle the pressure. I also liked the "happy days", "nicking money out of the professionals pockets" snippets!

Yeah, they both said they'd be toning it down a bit during the UK open but it seems to come naturally to Price. Whether that's down to his rugby background or whatever he doesn't seem to be able to reign it in. He got a warning from the referee in the semi final too, even though he didn't seem to be overdoing it that much. I don't doubt that he deliberately laid it on for Anderson but that was a gamble.

The thing about Anderson is that he used to be prone to folding under pressure and he used to be easy to wind up. He got through the pressure barrier when he beat Taylor in the Players Championship finals the year he won his first World Championship (I backed him at 10s that year straight after he beat Taylor) and he learned to focus his aggression the next year when he almost lost in the first round to the American who took a "practice swing" before every throw. Essentially Price's gamble paid off, putting Anderson back in a place where he couldn't focus his aggression and turned into a quivering wreck towards the end of the game but it coulda gone the other way! In fact, he got into a social media spat with Adrian Lewis a while back culminating in him losing despite Lewis throwing the worst darts he's ever thrown, the lowest winning average on record if memory serves.... although he probably learned from that too.

Was the gamble justified? Of course it was, you have to earn respect!

Well he was anyway, I rang Spoilsports trying to get a bet on at 500/1 to share with Stephen,
this is how the conversation went;

"Hello, I'm looking to open an account and have a bet"
A non-national lady most likely in a call center transferred me to another number
and a Doob man answered asking did I wish to open an account ?
I told him that I did and asked the price of Keegan Brown in the Darts players championship ?
He told me it was 500/1 and again asked did I wish to open an account ?

I told him; "Yes, I will if ye will lay me my bet of 20Euro on Keegan Brown at 500/1"
He replied; "And why would we not lay that bet ?"
To which I replied; "We won't even go there !"
"What's your name Sir ?"
"Ken Cashman"
"One second Sir, just gonna put you back on hold".

Two minutes later;
"Sorry to hold you Sir we can open an account for you but the price is now 150/1",
"I'll leave it off, Thanks".

Spoilsports indeed, I might have even watched the darts if'n I got the bet on !

I didn't know Sulojvic was out............fiver on a few outsiders. Cross is due a good tournament too..Think that skinny Welsh lad could do well soon also. My money is always on the Serbian Austrian but 3 or 4 fivers on players like Smith etc would be far more prudent. There's a change in the old order coming in Darts. Gurney could be the man..........?

Gon Bovi, eh? Top notch obviously. Reminds me of the Dublin Oasis cover band..........Oh Jaysus. They were very good. Fried food and Boddingtons......your arse will resemble the Japanese flag on the way home. Good luck and enjoy it.

That's the weekend alright, Ken. Keegan's odds were cut 'cos Suljovic pulled out of the tournament so he plays van de Pas instead in the first round i.e. instead of the number 7 ranked player he plays the number 30. However, even if he beats Big Ben (so named because he's very tall) he runs into Michael van Gerwyn in the second round so, on balance, I'd say Boyles done you a favour!

As LL suggests, there's a handful of players around the 33/1 mark that would be capable of causing an upset. Although too short for me, Anderson is probably decent value at 9/2 with Paddypower/Betfair Sportsbook... my thinking being that there's a good chance that he'll come back from being wound up last weekend with a point to prove and possibly focused to such an extent that he'll look and play like a man possessed!
