They seemed to have all the mod cons, Ken... although the price screens were playing up so they backed them up with marker on 180 cards. When he changed the stake he done something on his terminal but I don't think he amended the receipt (photo below). In any event, had they overpaid I'm sure it would have come to light soon enough and I'd be looking over me shoulder for the rest of the weekend.

No, I don't think so, it would seem to me that the bet was logged in as a £20 bet and if'n it had paid out as a £20 bet then that was the end of it. If by chance they did come looking fer you and you not being the stoopidist person in the world could easily claim; "Never seen ya before in me life Boss".
The law would be totally on your side as gambling debts are not recoverable by law and you being an anonymous figure to them left them with no recall to security or police.

To go a step further, which I doubt you will take as the time and effort involved would be too great, you could ring them and say that your official docket read at a £20 bet but you were only paid out on a £10 stake, and threathen to object to their Bookmaking licence and their Suitability of personal fitness licence, it would be a long haul and lots of lies would have to be told by you, but I reckon you would get your extra £385 in about 5 years time !

As fer the Law on gambling debts not being recoverable by law;

An old acquaintance of mine known as 'Buffalo' fer his big stature is a total gambling addict, a builder by day (some times) and a gambler by night, to this day he still rapes the drunken students by night in the city casino playing sober against the drunken students in Texas Hold 'em.

Anyway a few years back Buffalo was punting away on the horses in a small town outside of Cork and his Luck was in big time on the day and he ended up taking away about 46K outta PP, some of it paid in cash but the most of it paid by cheque.

All was good, Buffalo lodged the cheques in to his account and a few days later when all the cheques had cleared, he went back to the same town and the same PP office. The PP staff were only too delighted to see him walking in through the door, thinking that they might just get their 46K back.
Buffalo punted away in Grands on everything and anything, losing a few quid, winning a few quid and all cash over the counter, then he suggested to the PP manager of the shop to have it on credit rather than be counting out the cash all the time, she agreed.

Buffalo lost about 50K (On credit) that afternoon and walked out the door !

It wasn't intentionally ambiguous, just written on a textured bar ledge, similar to the one it was subsequently photographed on.

There used to be a lot of drunks playing holdem in casinos up above in Dublin, easy pickings for a sober night owls... the last recession pretty much killed that off. Same applied to online poker at the height of it's popularity, these days most players know what they're doing.
