Failed NCt
« on: February 20, 2019, 12:53:34 pm »
As you may have guessed I'm not a happy camper today.

Went for me NCT and the cnut failed me on a "Frayed/Cut CV Boot".

My mechanic had checked this only last week and all looked Ok, bit a wear.

I'm convinced the NCT'r used his mickey to Fray and cut it

If I spend less than 300 at test time I just put it down to wear and tear remember the milage we do and I recogn suspension is the big issue we must goover a few million speed humps in a cars lifetime .

Agree JM but when your mechanic (for over 30 years) has done a once over and then the cnut in the NCT finds this .

Makes you wonder !

I stopped going for pre tests let the NCT do the test then you know what THEY want fixed .Mechanics often give it the ok if they have other cars on the ramp worth more money to them to fix ..

Yeah JM think that's what I'll do in future especially as I'm on a "6 month date" with the NCT

I calculate that a car costs you about 3K a year to own over its lifetime ,on the 9 year plus if you can keep it on the road for under 1K a year including fees you are doing ok .

Probably about right, erm... but, of course, it will fluctuate with mileage. Some of the boys on here do billions of kilos every year. My MKII Octy, which is still in near perfect condition, cost me €2,629.80/year including purchase and maintenance, averaging 30,000 kilos/year.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I didn't think chains ever needed replacement. Is it specified in the service schedule?
