The value of most residential property has increased substantially since it's introduction. As it's self-assessment I guess property owners are supposed to select the band relevant to each property's value when returns are made?

I could never understand why the water protesters did not turn their attention to the abolition of LPT instead .at least with water you got something for tour money, but the greedy government just take LPT from you,and you get nothing for it

I pay mine by DD and it has not changed since it started, I was/am not aware of any instruction to have this changed from the revenue

Ignorance is no defence.
"The tax is based on the chargeable value of a residential property on the valuation date. The chargeable value is defined as the market value that the property could reasonably be expected to fetch in sale on the open market on the valuation date. The valuation date is 1 May 2013. This valuation applies until 1 November 2019. This means that the valuation of your property for LPT purposes on 1 May 2013 will stay the same until 2019 (even if you make improvements to your property). "

I suppose this means we will all have to have our gaffs valued on 2nd November 2019 and let the revenue man know !

Yes. The next valuation date is 1st November 2019. You will need to file a return indicating the value (on that date) of each property you own.

Hence while there will be no increase there will be an increase if you know what I mean.

Not due a revaluation until AFTER the local elections .Young Murphy said there will be no increase is LPT but he means in the rate the upward valuation will mean you pay more unless your Gaff exceeds the upper limit if it does you will see absolutely no increase in LPT .

Market value just look at your locan Auctioneer and get an Idea but remember to exclude the cheapest and most expensive sales and then use an average .My mate priced his gaff at a higher rate than his neighbours as he had cobblelock and fancy gates and decking .

Some folk get high valuations to avail of lower LTV mortgage rates... are they shooting themselves in the foot or, given that we live in Ireland, is it acceptable to have a range of different valuations for different purposes?
