- Health Minister Stephen Donnelly announced an additional 190 cases of Covid-19 today.
- Mr Donnelly said there were multiple clusters throughout the country in homes and workplaces.
- He said the 14-day cumulative cases per 100,000 of the population is now 26.
- Minister Donnelly also warned that we are at a tipping point, and he said Ireland's rate of growth over the past two weeks is the fourth highest in Europe.

- All home gatherings will be limited to six people from three households.
- All sporting events will also be held behind closed doors, with no spectators permitted to attend.
- People are advised to stay away from public transport for all but essential journeys.
- People from different households travelling in the same car have also been asked to wear face coverings.
I guess the NTA will stick out a press release in 2 or 3 weeks about whether the 'strangers in a car' applies to us or not.
Looks like we're back in a lock-down of sorts. Time to park up the taxis again?

Yeah, that's a Taxi

Fair Play to Mick from Cork and Eamo the cyclist they gave a great performance tonight really made the natives feel that the Government are in control .Mick from Cork says old people should not do old people stuff like staying in hotels with loads of other people .Im helping Big Dommo move Sheilagh O Flynns wardrobe over to her Mas gaff beside the flats and Dommo says to her .Dorris you will need your passport to get into the pub for Porter they probably wont let you in if your over 70 "fuck off you cheeky bollox "she says to Dommo im only 43 .then her friends grandaughter says "Ah now you will know what its like we have to show our passports to show we are old enough to get Porter now yis old fuckers have to do the same see how you bleedin like it .
So if there is somebody over 70 in the pub are we restricted to six only garglers ?
-
Mehaul is a cunt. All these restrictions and he's still going to cut our puppy dole.
It's all very well telling people not to use public transport but where are the alternatives? What happened to the much anticipated regulation of rickshaws? Where are the extra cycle lanes? When will main cycle routes be covered and protected? Why have we no electric scooter or electric bicycle rental schemes? Where are the incentives to promote car sharing? When will we see A to B car rental schemes? etc, etc, etc?
Dr. Leo was great so he was.

Here you go Rodent according to your Mancrush Doctor V ...The stand-out comment at yesterday's Cabinet meeting, according to some, was not about the rise in Covid-19 cases or the new public-health restrictions.
Rather it was Tánaiste Leo Varadkar's comments via a teleconference screen in the meeting room in Government Buildings from his staycation in Co Mayo.
"If we keep doing business like this, we won't be doing business for very long," Varadkar insisted, according to three people who attended the meeting.
Now Rodent 10/1 another General election this year or 5/1 next year looks like great value .Dr Leo is playing a blinder .The Country is heading backwards and at yesterdays TV spectacular no member of FG was there 2FF 1 Cabbage .Leo pushed them under the Bus he couldnt even bother attending the cabinet meeting in person .As you say Mick from Cork will cut the Puppy Dole and the Girls and Boys down the Flats where Big Dommo lives will never Vote FF again .Leo is now trying to Destroy FF for ever and not really trying to run a country .

Read between the lines Occi when the star of the Show dosent turn up for a Gala performance you know the Curtain is coming down on the Production .Leo not Turning up to give a bit of confidence as he is second in command and a Doctor ,instead we got the Cyclist and the Beard from Bray and Mick from Cork more like a lineup for a debate at the Local Parish Council than the People leading a Country .I think Mick from Cork has been exposed the Job of Taoiseach is above his Talent Pool .
-
I can't watch yer man Ryan on the telly. He keeps butting into other peoples questions at the briefings then he blurts out some intolerant stuff and trails off into nonsense. He looks broken or like he's getting feck all sleep.Too many cooks..
Anyway it's all good from yesterday..Be happy they didn't tell the over 50s to cocoon like they were considering in the UK. The more times they tell people to work from home the less likely we will be kicked off the PUP.

What are the odds that the Erm will still be predicting the end to this Government in 4 years time, and will start predicting the end of the Government after this one the day after it's formed?

Roy did you see the three of them on TV yesterday .Mick does his bit then turns to Eamo to say something he freezes then the Bray Beard does his lines then Eamo the Bike standing with his arms crossed across his chest while standing up stutters a load of shite .If this Government stays in place we are in trouble .You know its fucked .Paggo.Mc Grath, the Early school leaver and the minister for Meat are avoiding the Cameras .There is no plan no direction no hope with this shower .I dont know what the alternative is but this government is non functioning .The quicker its gone the better .

Teething problems
Poor Eamo and the Cabbages think they thought being in government was going to be all about bike lanes electric busses and house insulation ,none of them prepared to make the hard decisions and the FF crowd are pissed off they didnt get Company cars .They will be back in a few weeks then must pass a pre budget budget .Would you bet a tenner to win a pound that they will pass a budget ? I know I wouldnt if they dont pass a budget the Government automatically falls .At the moment I am fiscally opaque so dont have coin to invest if I had coin I would bet this government wont go two years .10/1 it fails this year and 5/1 it falls next year .

Yeah, I guess what I mean is, wash your hands, wear a mask and keep 2 meters, the rest is just semantics trying to keep portions of the economy open.

The puppy dole has kept me from driving around Dublin. A lot done, more to do?
Are the rickshaws better organised under the new regulations?
Are electric scooters available?
Is there a Go Car (type) scheme that facilitates point to point journeys?
Have the Metro plans been amended to facilitate cycle lanes in the covered/underground sections?

The poor old rickshaw drivers have been badly hit by this crisis
Zeus Scooter are lobbying heavily to get going in Dublin. being Irish they are very hopeful of getting approval soon, already a huge success in Germany. https://zeusscooters.com/who-is-zeus their app allows point to point
There is an electric bike rental scheme in Dublin that allows point to point, I assume cars wont be far behind with point to point facilities
-
Bikes ,Electric Bikes ,Scooters .How many of them will be on the road tonight when the wind blows?.
-
Maybe a congestion charge for motor vehicles would be appropriate to raise funds for screening cycle lanes?

Just like Occi said export your fever Nationwide ...Donegal and Kerry, which have welcomed a flock of home holidaymakers on domestic getaways, are now seeing a rise in cases of Covid-19.
Some 54 cases of the virus were reported yesterday - following a toll of 190 the previous day - amid growing fears that the country is at risk of a sustained resurgence.

Nphet warn Government that full lockdown may be required (https://www.breakingnews.ie/ireland/nphet-warn-government-that-full-lockdown-may-be-required-1014553.html)
Public health experts have privately warned the Government that a return to a full national lockdown may be necessary if the number of Covid-19 infections continues to rise. However, senior Government figures are understood to be reluctant to consider the idea of another full lockdown. Senior sources told The Irish Times that the possibility of another full lockdown came up during informal discussions in the last few days. Government figures cited social and economic reasons as to why another lockdown could not happen.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) did not recommend a full lockdown in its advice to Government on Monday. However, senior sources told The Irish Times that the question of a full lockdown will resurface if the number of new cases continues to increase. “NPHET are certainly making it clear that if this [the measures announced earlier this week] doesn’t work, it’s back to lockdown,” said a source close to Government.

Eamo the Bike says Social distancing for secondary kids on the bus is a must for the schools to reopen .I wonder if there is an opportunity for Taxi drivers to get work if this becomes official Government Policy and will the Department for Getting Smarter or the Department of Bikes and Walking make funds available to subsidise this transport ?
-
Raincoats should be all that's required.

Come this winter and if we're all still above ground, are any of you going to refuse to carry any pax that gets in your car with flu- like symptoms, just like every winter (and proceeds to tell you they are"dosed with the flu" as they all love to do)?
I'll be pegging them out the door for sure.
You would have no idea Which variety of the plague they're carrying. Fug that...

Not many pedestrians seriously injured in collisions with bicycles, erm. However, a "walking bus" scheme was being trialled by Fingal Co Co before the pandemic. That's certainly something that needs to be rolled out with greater urgency than ever. In rural areas kids living outside of a 3 kilo radius of the school should have assembly points 3-4 kilos away from the gate.

You're not the first taximan to suggest that taxis are unsuited to the new normal, Jonno... and I doubt you will be the last. In fact, other stakeholders including taxi company bosses have raised similar concerns.
I guess it's incumbent on Govt to take appropriate action including the promotion of car sharing, the regulation of (electric) rickshaws and the development of electric bicycle and scooter rental schemes.

Seemingly the Flu season in Australia has been fairly light, normally a good predictor of what's to come here, probably a combination of social distancing and a weak strain.
It might not be as bad as you think.
(I'll still get my yearly vaccine all the same)

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar are on a collision course over the Government's approach to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
The Tánaiste has become increasingly frustrated with the severity of the Covid-19 restrictions recommended by public health officials and the speed at which they are being implemented by the Government.
Fine Gael ministers have been privately criticising their Fianna Fáil colleagues for taking "short cuts" before announcing new coronavirus rules.
10/1 a second election this year ? If the Schools dont return or if they close down again Martin is finished .

They should stop Eamon Ryan making any statements....that would be a step in the right dirction!!

MORE FUCKING ,FUCKING NONSENCE ,,,School buses will start running next week without social distancing, despite the advice of the Covid-19 public health advisory body Nphet.
The Department of Education has confirmed that services will operate as originally envisaged - without distancing, but with a range of other public health measures in place.
However, it has committed to phasing in social distancing for second-level pupils on board buses, as required.
-
What's wrong with that? Mrs. Catcher is supposed to be back to school next week sometime to prepare for the return of the little darlings.
-
Bit of a comedown from the supermodelling and hairdressing!!
-
Idling since March, same as myself only on full wages ... looking forward to a break.
-
Dear Parent
Please be advised your septic dizeeze ridden kids can travel on the bus with no social distancing but we here at Dig Dommo National School will knock the bollox out of your little scrotes if they dont stay 2 meters apart in the classroom like what we are tellen dem to do .
Regards .
Ultan Mac Anonnonoonnah Principle .
-
They should wash their hands and probably wear masks on the busses. Of course, it would make sense to ban any kids that live within 2.7 kilos of the school (as the robin flies) from busses.
-
So no extra taxi work transporting spotty teenage oiks to school .
-
The motor trade is having a hard enough time without us hampering sales of Chelsea tractors.
-
From an opinion piece by Simon Carswell in today's Irish Times:
- You can attend a wedding with strangers but not have seven friends over for a garden party
- You can send your children to school on a bus but are advised not to take a bus yourself
- You can watch a football match in a pub that serves food but not watch a game on the sidelines
-
I can't see dinner parties or barbecues being cancelled. Folk are used to them now.
-
It's all a loada bollocks.

It's very easy to find incongruities such as those mentioned above, however if the raison d'etre is to allow certain activities to continue/begin whilst trying to curtail the virus they can be allowed for/understood.
In the example above it can be seen they want to allow people to get married and have some sort of celebration and to get the schools back open.
These are exceptions to the rule, a commonly used phrase, accepted as normal practice.

The one great injustice that cannot be condoned by anyone is the planned reductions to PUP. A lot of men are happy to stay off work in the interests of the greater good. Surely that should be encouraged and those men should be rewarded, not punished.

The greater good according to those voted into power is to return to work if you can and to stop being a burden on society.
Incentives have been offered (grants) followed by the stick, (reduced payments) in an effort to bring about this change in behaviour.
-
Ah heere Roy....enough of yer bollox!!

It'll take time before the new normal can accommodate full employment. Taking our trade as an example, isn't it better that a proportion of men can earn a living wage while the rest concentrate on saving the world by eliminating unnecessary travel/congestion? Not all heroes wear capes but all heroes deserve recognition and reward.

It's a testament to the bravery of some in our trade, particularly those at the higher end of risk spectrum plying their trade without thought or consequence.
We shall mourn their passing.

AGRICULTURE Minister Dara Calleary has apologised and said he should not have attended an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner that breached the Government’s public health guidelines.
Mr Calleary apologised “unreservedly” to the public and to his Government colleagues after admitting he was one of a number of current and former TDs and Senators who attended a dinner at hotel in Galway last night.

Taoiseach's office clarifies that 50 people can attend indoor cultural events amid confusion sparked by Health Minister
Mr Calleary confirmed he attended the dinner organised by the Oireachtas Golf Society to mark its 50th anniversary in the Station House Hotel, Clifden, Co Galway. The dinner followed a two-day golf tournament for the society captain’s and president’s prizes which took place at the nearby Connemara Golf Club. A number of current and former Oireachtas members participated in the golf tournament.
The Irish Examiner first reported that the dinner had between 60 to 80 attendees split across a partitioned function room at the hotel. The function was organised by the society’s president, former Fianna Fáil senator Donie Cassidy, with the event honouring the late former Fianna Fáil MEP Mark Killilea.
Mr Calleary, who was a family friend of Mr Killilea, is understood to have told the organisers he would speak at the event as long as it was within public health guidance. A source said there were no more than six people at his table.
However, the official guidance on all mass gatherings signed off by the Cabinet, of which Mr Calleary is a member, on Tuesday is that no more than six people from no more than three households can attend indoor gatherings or events. Only weddings are exempt from this guidance where up to 50 people can attend.
Mr Calleary said in a statement: “Last night I attended a function I committed to a number of weeks ago, having been asked to pay tribute to a person I respected and admired greatly.
"In light of the updated public health guidance this week I should not have attended the event. I wish to apologise unreservedly to the public, from whom we are asking quite a lot at this difficult time. I also offer this apology and my sincere regret to my government colleagues.”
×
A spokesperson for Mr Calleary had originally confirmed: “The Minister was asked to attend the dinner and speak in tribute to a deceased long-serving former Oireachtas member. He did attend and spoke briefly. He left following the dinner and observed social distance throughout the event.”
Former Fine Gael Senator Cáit Keane, who was listed as having attended, declined to comment, referring all questions to Mr Cassidy. She confirmed she had played golf in Connemara, but added: “I have absolutely no comment to make on it at all.”
Former Fine Gael senator Paul Coghlan confirmed he also attended the event, but insisted: “We were all socially distanced.”
Other confirmed attendees included Fine Gael Senator John Cummins.

It's not the numbers allowed that is the issue here. It's the optics.

Yes but what I mean is that they will argue that they were split into two groups of 50 or less. So ok, technically they didn't breach the guidelines but it's the projected image of the whole episode that will grate on people. The optics.

The Minister for Agriculture Dara Calleary has apologised for his attendance at a golf event this week in breach of public health guidelines.
More than 80 people, including the Agriculture Minister, senators and TDs attended a golf function in a hotel just a day after the Government announced new lockdown measures to stop the spread of Covid-19.
The Oireachtas Golf Society event to celebrate its 50th anniversary was held at a function room at the Station House Hotel, Clifden, Co Galway last night, even though public health advice clearly states "no formal or informal events or parties should be organised in these premises".
The table plan listed 82 people for the sit-down function, with up to 10 people per table, even though guidelines state no more than six people should be seated at any one table.
The hotel and society declined to confirm who had attended but the guest list included: Minister for Agriculture Dara Calleary and his wife Siobhan, Galway TD Noel Grealish, Senator Jerry Buttimer, Senator John Cummins, Senator Paul Daly, Senator Niall Blaney, former Fine Gael Senator Cáit Keane, Judge and former Attorney General Seamus Woulfe, the Moroccan Ambassador Lahcen Mahraoui, former Labour Party senator Lorraine Higgins, former Fine Gael Senator and TD for Sligo–Leitrim Gerry Reynolds, former Fine Gael senator Imelda Henry, Circuit Court judge and a former Workers' Party TD Pat McCartan, who serves as the vice-captain, and a number of others.
The Agriculture Minister and others confirmed their attendance while others have been contacted for comment.
A spokesperson for the Minister of Agriculture said: “The Minister was asked to attend the dinner and speak in tribute to a deceased long-serving former Oireachtas member.
"He did attend and spoke briefly. He left following the dinner and observed social distance throughout the event.”

Cianan Brennan: We may be changing our behaviour - but the virus isn't
The event was organised by the President of the society and former Fianna Fáil TD Donie Cassidy and honored Galway man and former Fianna Fáil MEP Mark Killilea Jnr, who died in 2018. Mr Killilea's family was in attendance at the event.
A spokesman from The Station House Hotel said they consulted the Irish Hotels Federation, who told them that the event could go ahead with fewer than 50 people in each side of the room.
"My understanding of dining arrangements is that in any dining room it has to be fewer than 50," he said.
"There were 81 people at the event who dined with us, divided into 45 and 36.
"It's not a Mickey Mouse partition, it's a proper physical structure that divides two rooms, but it can be removed.
It was booked a few months ago, the guidelines were going to change 50 up to 100 but didn't, so we spoke to the Oireachtas Golf Society, and the Irish Hotel Federation (IHF), and we were told that as long as there were no more than 50 diners, it was safe.
An email from the IHF to members on Wednesday, seen by the Irish Examiner, stated: "Further to the Government announcement yesterday in relation to further Covid-19 restrictions, the Department of Tourism has not yet received any guidance on the changes as of this morning.
"Therefore, the status quo remains in terms of current operational procedures for hotels until further notice."
The IHF says that it is seeking guidance from the Department of Tourism on the guidelines.
Rise TD Paul Murphy said that the event should have been cancelled.
"I think it's extremely poor that this event went ahead. It shows that they think it's one rule for them and another for everybody else.
It sends a very poor message when figures from the political establishment openly flaunt the guidelines when ordinary people have to cancel parties, arts events and weddings.
"Even if they could prove that the partition allows them get around the guidelines, it's a very flimsy excuse.
"In any case, the message that it sends out - that you can get around the rules - is not one that the political establishment should be sending out."
Taoiseach Micheál Martin today again appealed to people to reduce meetings and social contacts as much as possible as the virus continues to spread.
"The overall message from NPHET public health advice is they want to reduce meetings as much as they possibly can.
"They want people to reduce the number of social contacts that they have because the numbers have gone up.
"We want to save lives, we want to protect livelihoods."

And although they say they were split into two groups of less than 50 apiece, it now transpires that it was one room separated by a partition. Hardly airtight. These are all the details that will be homed in on in order to topple meehawl.

Contacted RTE early show last night ....This is a constitutional nightmare .A Government Minister .A EU Commissioner but more importantly a High Court Judge .If Justice Mc Cartan was in attendance not only Callerly but the Judge should tender his resignation .His poor Judgement in attending this issue is disgusting but more importantly if flouts the LAW that he is attested to uphold .
How can the Judge sit in judgement of any Covid related Case when he himself has shown scant regard for the law .
Regards .
I notice they have mentioned the Justice I contacted Liveline trying to get on the Wireless and call out the Judge ..Matthew 7.2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged:

He was due on RTE and Newstalk radio this morning so obviously he had to be culled sharpish.
The funny (not) thing is that the rules changed overnight. Now one parent can stand on the sidelines and watch their kid play football. Though the parent is still not supposed to get the bus there ::fds

If Callerly thought it was serious enough to hand back the keys to the company car and the executive toilet in Kildare Street then he has fucked the rest of them under the bus .Whats sauce for the Goose is sauce for the Gander . SERIOUSLY if you have a score or two the 10/1 on offer with Paddy Power a the next general election to be in 2020 looks a sporting wager .Sf/Labour will call today for the Dail to return early from holidays to deal with this Constitutional Crisis (Judges partying and breaking the Law ) The Greens will abandon ship before the Pre budget .If a government cant pass a Money Bill they AUTOMATICALLY fall .Im Broke at the moment but if I had a few Ton I would have it on @10/1 .

The Judge Pat McCartan retired about 2 years ago. There is a different active Judge called Pat McCarthy which might cause some confusion
-
Waiting for confirmation about who actually attended as opposed to who was invited, some of them might have had the cop-on not to go.
-
His idiot colleagues on the radio all morning making qualified statements about Gallery. " Oh yes, I accept what he did was wrong BUT he is a man of integrity/he did it in good faith/he realises the error of his judgement/blah blah fuckin blah".
Why doesn't one of them just come out and call him a silly bollox and he deserves to be sacked instead of circling the wagons, telling him to lie low for a while, and he'll probably get a good job soon.
It's so ironic that after all the crying he did when he wasn't given a ministerial post at the time of govt formation, and then got it when BIFFO 2.0 was sacked, it took him a couple of short weeks to blow it.
It must be a kick in the teeth for all the folks from the wesht who went all over the various media giving out that there was no minister from to that side of the country. Now they're back to shquare wan.

Fine Gael Senator Jerry Buttimer has resigned as Leas-Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.
Mr Buttimer was among over 80 people who attended an Oireachtas Golf Society event on Wednesday which appeared to breach public health guidelines.
Dara Calleary has also resigned as Minister for Agriculture following his attendance at the event after the Irish Examiner broke the story last night.
Mr Buttimer posted a letter of his resignation from the position on social media this morning.

I think if they had have introduced something similar to the Back to Work scheme whereby the PUP is reduced over a period of time...i might have been tempted...but then probably so would everyone else but at least there would be a financial cushion if the work wasn't there, the 1k grant didn't even pique my interest tbh.

No and No Jonno,
I think if they had have introduced something similar to the Back to Work scheme whereby the PUP is reduced over a period of time...i might have been tempted...but then probably so would everyone else but at least there would be a financial cushion if the work wasn't there, the 1k grant didn't even pique my interest tbh.
Maybe Watty can do what he's suggesting.
Yea for some reason it never lets me start a new thread either in members or public. Getting a message about"integers". Ain't goh a facking clue.

10/1 with paddy power a general election in 2020
NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN!
The Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has removed the party whip from Senators Jerry Buttimer, Paddy Burke and John Cummins.
The Fine Gael leader said he made the decision "in recognition of the seriousness of this matter".
He added: "All have apologised profusely and accept they made a serious error of judgment."

Golf Society members charged €140 for two days of golf and a gala dinner (https://www.independent.ie/irish-news/golf-society-members-charged-140-for-two-days-of-golf-and-a-gala-dinner-39467469.html) (Indo)
Attendees at a controversial Oireachtas Golf Society outing in Galway earlier this week were charged €140 in green fees for two days of golf and a gala dinner.
<snip>
The invite states that the green fee for two days & Gala Dinner cost is €140. “Dinner on Wednesday night will be served in the Kylemore Suite, Station House Hotel, Clifden at 8.30pm. Presentation of prizes will take place after the dinner,” it states.

I wonder if these limits apply, or should apply, in this situation? Esp the time limit?
https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/covid19/covid19_what_you_need_to_do.html (https://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/health/covid19/covid19_what_you_need_to_do.html)
Can I go to the pub for a drink?
Yes, but if you wish to drink alcohol you must also purchase a ‘substantial meal’ that costs at least €9. This rule applies to each individual customer. If you go to the pub with a group of friends and you all wish to drink alcohol, each member of your group must order a substantial meal. If you do not want to consume an alcoholic drink, you do not need to buy a meal.
Furthermore, under current public health guidance:
You cannot spend longer than 105 minutes dining in any pub or restaurant
Table service must be provided and you cannot sit at the bar
All pubs and restaurants must close to the public by 11.30pm
A maximum of 6 people from no more than 3 different households are allowed at a table
No events, parties or gatherings involving more than 6 people indoors or 15 people outdoors are permitted in pub or restaurant settings

Devils Advocate: It's possible that he didn't know there was food. The Indo link I posted earlier about the tickets said you could bring a guest. If someone else bought the tickets and he was a guest just for the golf only, he might not have realised there was dinner afterwards.
Maybe some newspaper will post photos over the weekend. It might have been a formal dinner and they wore tuxedos? Then it would be hard to deny. I wonder if the hotel had security cameras in the ballroom/dinner area?

I'm not so sure....if you invited a guest to something like that, you would surely mention that there would be chicken and chips on the go after in case they had other arrangements.

The Irish Hotels Federation got a mention earlier... (a bit of buck-passing)
https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40035683.html (https://www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40035683.html)
The Irish Hotels Federation has said that the current public health guidelines for indoor gatherings "are clear" and allow for 50 people with no intermingling.
The statement from the Irish Hotels Federation said: "Further to the Government announcement on Tuesday in relation to Covid-19 restrictions, we sought clarification on a number of issues from the Department of Tourism. "In line with the protocol agreed with the Department, we advised all members that the status quo remains in terms of current operational procedures for hotels until further notice. The current guidelines around capacity at an indoor event are clear. "They permit a maximum of 50 people at any one time including hotel staff and any other event support workers. "Multiple gatherings are allowed in venue facilities provided they are in separate defined spaces and there are systems to prevent intermingling in common spaces (e.g. entrances, exits and toilet facilities). "We are expecting that the updated operational guidelines will be published by Fáilte Ireland and the Department of Tourism early next week. "Compliance with the published operational guidelines is the responsibility of each individual hotel. We encourage all hotels to ensure that they are fully compliant with the operational guidelines."

How much of this did meehawl know about? This annual outing must be an occasion to be talked about in the halls of govt buildings and Leinster House. It seems customary practice that former Taoisaigh become honorary members. So let's not kid ourselves that the chat around the place wasn't in the order of "oh I hear the big bash is on tomorrow etc". Martin is bound to have known, never mind that he was probably invited himself . Being the big dick and all.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tánaiste Leo Varadkar have asked Phil Hogan to “consider his position” as EU Commissioner after attending this week’s controversial Oireachtas Golf Society dinner which breached Covid-19 regulations.
“The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste did speak with the Commissioner today and asked him to consider his position,” a Government spokesperson said in a statement.

Teachta Kenny said:
“It is with great concern that I see that a state appointee to the International Protection Appeals Tribunal spoke from the platform today at a rally in Dublin called to deny that there is a pandemic and to encourage people not to wear facemasks.

After the next election Ryan ans Mehole will be removed as party leader Shinners wont get enough Support from other Tds to get the Taoiseachs job Neither will FG .Next Taoiseach might be somebody that can get enough cross party support to form a National Government .What I dont understand is why Mick and Leo are asking Big Phil to quit he is EU trade Comissioner a high powered job especially in the Brexit fuckup ,Why would you want to remove such a Powerfull Allie unless the Greens were threatening to bring down the Government if you dont .It would be disastrous for Ireland to remove the Big Bully now .Dont know if you noticed Mick and Leo asked him to Consider his position ,not Ryan who is the other party leader in the Government that is why I think Ryan told the other two its Big Phil to go or we go.Politics is a filthy dirty blood Sport .

Letter to the Editor of the examiner
Is there a witch hunt going on in Political Circles .The calling for Big Phil to consider his position coming from the the Taoiseach an Tanaiste but not the other party leader in the Goverment might be a Salome moment of offering a head on a plate for the Greens to continue to support this shambolic government .
Is it actually Politically prudent to be calling for Big Phil to resign from the European Comission .He has a seat at the coalface in these Brexit talks that any new Irish Co missioner might not have such influential access .For the Good of the Nation it might be better for Phil to stand his ground and let this Government crash .The whole debacle is been elevated to more than it really was .If everybody at the event should review their conduct then why are the hotel staff waiters and kitchen staff not being required to give up their jobs .There seems to be two agendi going on here .
Regards .
John

That's why it went tits up.....having it in Galway!!
Why did they have it in Galway ?Who owns the hotel ?There is a real question about the Hotel Staff especially the Management who held the event .The waiting staff also Broke the law by serving the guests if there were more than 50 including the staff .but nobody is mentioning them .The we are in this togeather dosent seem to apply to everybody that was at the event .Reading between the lines I think Ryan has been told by the Sprouts he is the big Cabbage and the sprouts want out so they want him to ask for BiG Phils head on a plate and the Sprouts are hoping big Phil does a Big Phil and tells them to kiss the butt end of his bollox .Personally I would prefer to have Big Phil at the brexit bargaining table than have this government to survive .

It wouldn't be right to whack the lowly waiting/bar staff. They were only doing what they were told. They're hardly going to down tools and then lose their jobs. Yes, the management maybe, but given the guests I think they're jobs would be in jeopardy too

And there in lies the problem Jonno why should the staff be exempt The Natzies tried that one I was only following orders .If there is a grey area then the whole thing is fucked it allows certain people or workers to be held to a different standard .Why do you think they are handing out 350 sitting down money .I doubt the waiting staff are taking more than that home for a weeks work .

You're a tough cookie John [emoji51][emoji16].
They'd need to legislate for that mine field. Uproar there would be, my young Padawan.
I suppose if you drill down to the micro detail, presumably the bucko (that wiggy fella) that booked the shindig probably bypassed the reception and went straight to the top. I imagine the first question was " listen Paddy, there's more than 80 of us, how are we fixed?"
"Not a problem Donie, leave it with me". 81 of them didn't just rock up without prior clearance.
Hopefully these are the questions asked in the dail.

You really don't understand what the PUP payment is for, you really seem to believe they want you to stay out of work?

EU Commissioner Phil Hogan has apologised for his attendance at the Oireachtas Golf Society event where more than 80 people attended.
Despite the Taoiseach and Tánaiste telling him to consider his position, Mr Hogan is insisting on remaining in place saying he knows his attendance has "touched a nerve" with the public.
In a statement, Mr Hogan said he apologises "fully and unreservedly" for attending the dinner on Wednesday night.
'Big Phil' returns to Brussels with an ultimatum: In the name of God, go
"I want, in particular, to apologise to the wonderful healthcare workers, who continue to put their lives on the line to combat Covid 19 and all people who have lost loved ones during this pandemic," he added.
He said his actions have "touched a nerve for the people of Ireland, something for which I am profoundly sorry."
The statement adds: "I realise fully the unnecessary stress, risk and offense caused to the people of Ireland by my attendance at such an event, at such a difficult time for all, and I am extremely sorry for this.
I acknowledge my actions have touched a nerve for the people of Ireland, something for which I am profoundly sorry
"I acknowledge that the issue is far bigger than compliance with rules and regulations and adherence to legalities and procedures. All of us must display solidarity as we try to stamp out this common plague.
"I thus offer this fulsome and profound apology, at this difficult time for all people, as the world as a whole combats Covid 19.
×
"I spoke to both the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste yesterday and I have listened carefully to their views, which I respect. I have been reporting to the President of the European Commission on all these matters in recent days."
'Consider his position'
It comes after Taoiseach Micheál Martin and the Tanaiste asked EU Commissioner Phil Hogan to "consider his position" following his attendance at an Oireachtas Golf Society dinner.
More than 80 people including the now-former Agriculture Minister Dara Calleary attended the event at the Clifden Station House Hotel in Co Galway, on Wednesday.
The event was held to mark its 50th anniversary at the Station House Hotel in Co Galway on Wednesday evening, after the Government announced new restrictions on Tuesday that reduced capacity for indoor gatherings from up to 50 to six people, with the exception of weddings and cultural events where up to 50 people can attend.
In a statement to the Sunday Independent last night, a Government spokesman confirmed: "The Taoiseach and the Tánaiste did speak with the commissioner today and asked him to consider his position.
"They both believe the event should never have been held, that the commissioner's apology came late and that he still needs to give a full account and explanation of his action."
Travel to Brussels
The Sunday Independent has also learned that in the first week of July, Mr Hogan travelled from Brussels to the Netherlands to take part in a tournament organised by the Irish Wild Geese Golf Society, which is based in the Belgian capital.
There were no travel restrictions between Belgium and the Netherlands at the time, but both countries are deemed unsafe for travel by the Irish Government.
The number of new cases per 100,000 people in both countries is almost double the rate in Ireland.

Regards .
John

Bob Beef and Dairy industries in Ireland are trading insolvent .Without Grants and handouts they would be Bankrupt .For years the oul rural economy card has been played .There are Dairy farms in New Zealand the size of Irish Counties who get no Government Subsidies .Why should Irish shoppers have to pay 12 euro a kilo for beef when its available for half that price on the open market .Do you remember when Guinness controled most of the Pub trade by lending money to publicans .You could get Guinness Smithwicks or Harp no foreign gargle on sale like Bud,Coors,Heiniken,Carlsbers ,Bulmers and Paddy,Jemmy or Vodka the only spitits .The day of Farmers holding the Country to ransome is over .The day of the publicans influencing government policy by letting the local TD hold his clinic in the lounge are over .The EU and the Government artificially keep the price of stuff high to subsidise certain businesses out of your pocket .

The bollox is not going to resign anyway. No way he'ld walk away from that gravy train. Big Phil, big neck. "A fulsome apology will have to do yis", yis cunts. "Consider your position" used to mean "resign ya cuncha".

I posted earlier Bob I would think the Greens wanted his head to save the government .Leo and Mick know how important it is for Ireland to have somebody at the table to do the Brexit Deal .Im expecting one or two of the sprouts to leave the Cabbage Party within the next few days .A lot of them are activist not politicians .In the Real Polotic we Need Phil in Place more than we need this Government .

Big Phil now says he STOPPED off in Kildare on his way to Galway at the time Kildare was in Lockdown .In Big Phil language he just scored a double bogey .Still no word from Ryan or the woman who wanted to be Ryan .

Well, they got through Sunday without any fatal exposures in the papers or talkshows. I was kinda surprised nobody got the CCTV or photos from the hotel but, as somebody asked already, who owns the hotel?
Big Phil is an EU hotshot and mostly immune to what happens on this damp rock. The Judge? Well, the Constitution, blah, blah. The Govt will be very apologetic about everything but sadly their hands are tied...
The Govt will take their beating in the Dail next week (30 secs on the news) and all will go back to normal-ish.
I wonder what the odds are that something about schools will break Mon/Tues to distract the peasants from Golfgate?
-
They need to ramp up covid testing and have 500 cases and 72 deaths by tomorrow evening...that'll put golfgate to bed!!
-
Greens are going to have to show their hand .Nobody except the Big Cabbage has commented .

Thick as a hobby horses shite....answers to nobody...

if you have a country populated by thick cunts you're gonna have a country run by thick cunts.
I've said it before that the only time I ever voted was to vote no to the Fiscal Compact treaty a number of years ago.
the cunts in power blatantly spoofed, bullied, bullshitted, fearmongered and outright threatened the people to submit to faceless unelected cunts in Brussels.
and the majority voted yes to get bent over and rode up the hole.

He don't go to mass of a Sunda since he retired from politics.
He'll go to a funer'l if there's a photo op though. Actually knowing the client in the pine suit is not a prerequisite for attending.

As Freddy Mercury would say ,Another one bites the Dust ..Former TD and senator Donie Cassidy has resigned as vice president of Fianna Fáil following criticism of a dinner event last Wednesday, organised by the Oireachtas Golf Society, of which he is president.
In a statement tonight he said: "In light of the ongoing controversy surrounding the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner in Clifden, and due to the fact that the matter is subject to a Garda investigation, I tendered my resignation as Leas Úachtaráin of Fianna Fáil to Sean Dorgan General Secretary yesterday."
-
I'd say his wig is gettin some terrible treatment tonight!!

If its safe to go into schools its safe to Vote .Just saying like . You would think a decent Political scandal would have whips and whipped cream and handcuffs but not in Ireland its Golf balls ,Dinners .and mobile phones . How Roman Catholic of us .

We haven't had a decent tribunal in years ffs!!

MIND READERS ....The kiss of death for the Judge and Mr Philip Hogan ......Former Taoiseach Enda Kenny refused a dinner invitation to the Station House Hotel from the Oireachtas Golf Society and was "very unhappy" about it going ahead.
Mr Kenny played golf on the Tuesday at the Connemara championship links, but then made it clear he would not attend that night's dinner and did not think it was a good idea.
He believed it would send out the wrong signal to the general public, with hundreds of golf outings and competitions being cancelled around the country.
The former Taoiseach - whose cabinet enforcer was Phil Hogan - expressed misgivings to others who proposed to go ahead, the Irish Independent has learned.
"He turned it down flat," said a closely placed source. "He was very unhappy at the idea."
Mr Kenny has failed to respond to invitations for comment from the Irish Independent since the story broke.
The former Taoiseach has complied scrupulously with all public health advice since the coronavirus crisis began, turning down a number of invitations. He only emerged from lockdown like other members of the public when the Government rolled back many of the restrictions.
He has since golfed on a number of occasions, but has always observed social distancing requirements, carrying anti-viral gels among his equipment.
"He has played ball from day one - and in more ways than one since the lockdown was eased," a friend told the Irish Independent.
"He was invited to this, even again on the day itself, and he was very unhappy with it. There was no way he was going - and he instead went straight home after the golf."

Brilliant work by Kenny he has just stabbed Leo back for Leo doing him .No wriggle room left now for Leo he has to beg Michael to try and sack big Phil .

Listen to Kenny getting all self righteous. Did he fuck think it was a bad idea. He couldn't make it, full stop. If he could go, he would've. All them clients love rubbing cocks at these do's.
Whyd'nee report when he knew something wrong was happening?
And it's amazing how many of them that were actually there DIDN'T know that there was going to be a shindig after the round of golf, yet someone that didn't go (Kenny) knew all about the fill itinerary.
Oh the lies, the lies. Sicken yer arsehole.
