I think they'll have to. The rules for the wet pubs are 99% the same as the food pubs so it doesn't make sense to let one open but not the other. The food pubs are abusing it anyways by just serving €9 burgers/pizza from the next-door chipper.
It'll be a tricky one for us as, theoretically, pubs are a bit part of our business. Most of us are gonna see our PUP money drop on 17th Sept. We'll be forced back to work but what work? Esp if they start lockdowns in Dublin again.
-
I know a lad on the Temple Bar traders committee he reckoned Fedruary 2021 back in July talking to him last night he still says a lot of Dublin City Pubs DONT want to reopen .The Council have suspended the rates the insurance has been modified no wages to pay .He says No Gigs,no Sports ,No tourists +no trade .
-
The pubs are open already. If they didn't want the ones with restaurant licences to operate they could easily have said you need to spend €20 quid on food.A €9 meal isn't very much in Ireland.
I don't think there will be a massive upsiwing in business after the first couple of weekends.Still no late bars.
-
Dont take this as Gospel But the thought is .Local lockdowns by post code .If there are more than 200 ACTIVE cases per 100,000 people then local lockdown will be considered .Now The population of most Dublin Postal areas would not be 100,000 So would they decide to put 8.10,12 togeather and close Inchicore ,Drimnagh and Ballyer area to make up the numbers .Or might they use Electoral areas ?How the Fuck can people run a business if the people making the rules dont know the rules .

Do you not know why it was 9 euro? When I were a lad if you wanted to go to a late nightclub they had to sell food Mc Gonagles gave you a ticket and you got Cabbage and spuds and a bit of pig .I think Sacks also did food .The cost of the food was four shillings when the law was writted about 1962 .So the Government decided that as that law was still on the books they would use that to open food pubs four bob in 1962 would have the same purchasing power as 9 euro today .The original law was to keep the Chapel happy that people were going for something to eat and not dance and drink late .Thats where the ( euro bit came from
-
Interesting...I've only seen some pensioners and dole lifers complain about the €9 food requirement.

And me MFH!!
Anyhoo....i used to look forward to the oul chicken n chips when we got in to Heartbreakers in the Pheeno.

I've just got myself in the habit of starving myself for a few hours before going for pints. It's a genius plan until the pub doesnt force you to buy grub then you end up in a heap the next day.

Not starving yourself enough pal!! lol

The Govt might just get a pain in their collective bolloxes, and let us all get the pox if we wont adhere to the guidelines, and who can blame them.their damed if they do,and damed if they dont

Dollyer Im not a big conspiracy theorist BUT we have had other Epidemics .Spanish Flu,Hong Kong Flu .Polio ,TB without any Lockdowns .I wonder if Trump the Zealot caused this Lockdown He attacked The WHO and forced their hand .Has the free world fallen for a hoax thinking that this was actually the start of WW3 with a China Viral attack .I believe if America had a Proper World Leader as head of State the world lockdown would be lifted .Im thinking this is a bit like the .The first time you went to a Disco with your mates you stood on one side of the hall and the girls on the other and everybody waited for somebody else to move first .It is my contention this virus is weakening and big pharma and governments need a vacine to sell as a cover up for a world wide political mistake of lockdown .Look at most african countries that never locked down their death rate is no higher than western world countries who bankrupted their own economies .This whole thing Dollyer just dosent add up .
-
Wake up, erm... the pubs have been open for months.
-
They probably pretend they're closed when they get sketch that the erm is on the prowl....on his neighbourhood watch...with his uniform and his truncheon!!

A new graded Covid-19 alert system will allow the Government to introduce local lockdowns based on the level of coronavirus in a county or region.
Under a soon-to-be published plan for living with the virus, five levels of restrictions will be introduced - with one being the least severe and five the most.
Restrictions will be imposed depending on various factors but the key criteria will be the amount of new cases per 100,000 people over a two-week period.

Of course it makes sense but can you imagine the corruption by Politicians to keep their constituency open and employers covering up outbrakes to keep the numbers down .I dont know how they will count cases in an area .How long more can countries pay Puppy Pounds and operate on reduced tax take ?

The government have rowed back twice on dates for pubs to reopen, I’m not holding my breath for the 23rd

Think Rural Pubs will get the Green Light to many TDs putting on the pressure .Dublin might be a different story probably limit the amount of people allowed in and early closing .This cant go on its costing Billions we dont have .This budget might be a smoke screen but next one will rip the lining out of your wallett add in Brexit if there is no deal 500,000 unemployed will cost a fortune in Dole Doller .Dont know what Cork is Like But Dublin City is dead .

Agreed, this year’s budget will be a non event, probably get a small token bit of pain to keep the greens happy, I’m not working in cork city at this time of year, but from what I’m hearing, Saturday nights are bustling, the rest of the week is shit, and the last few days have been the worst.

Put your pride in your pocket John, as me oul granny used to say. If you can't beat em, join em. You'll make your living easy without having a brain haemorrhage on the ranks in town waiting 45 min for a run, and won't have to be going round looking for a different way to earn coin that you'll probably regret in a week.

Here .did any of you actually get the 1000 grant yet ?
Rang them dozens of times last week cos it's 5 weeks since I sent the forms in. Managed to get through once to be given an email address to write to. Got a reply saying she would pass it on to the case officer and I would hear from them soon. Nothing. So I was told by someone in the know to go in person. Went this morning. Queued outside in the freezing wind. Left after 15 minutes cos it didn't move one inch. Came back closer to closing time. Queued up again. Eventually got in. One guy on his own dealing with everyone. He tipped a few keys on his computer and asked me did I have a name. Luckily I did. She was still there so he got her and along she comes with my forms in hand. Points out a few boxes I hadn't filled in for vat. I said, for example, I bought the ppe in the pound shop and their till receipt does not show vat. Same for most of the stuff except fuel. Okay she's he, I'll tell "himself " whoever the fuck that is. Says I should hear next week. Also muttered something about the vat being taken off I think. Don't quote me on that though. So in short, no, certainly I haven't got anything yet and I can't imagine many boys have chased it as much as I have! She emphasised about having to keep the receipts too. In fairness she was OK. I've probably painted a bad picture of her. I could do with it. Just before that I was with my accountant for the bad news!

Public Health experts have urged the Government to postpone the reopening of wet pubs in Dublin over serious concerns over the rise in Covid-19 cases in the Capital.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) has recommended calling off the reopening as another 107 new coronavirus cases were recorded in Dublin.
Nphet also called for rules on indoor gatherings to be significantly reduced to only allow two different households meet indoors.
The current rules allow six people from three different households hold indoor gatherings.
There are serious concerns in Nphet and Government over the rise in new Covid cases in family homes in Dublin.
The advice was submitted to government this afternoon and will be considered over the weekend ahead of Cabinet meeting next week.
Latest figures nationwide saw 196 new cases reported with no further deaths.
There have now been a total of 1,781 deaths and 30,360 confirmed cases.
×
Of the cases notified today, 103 are men and 91 are women, with 61pc under 45 years of age.
43pc are confirmed to be associated with outbreaks or are close contacts of a confirmed case and 37 cases have been identified as community transmission.
107 cases are in Dublin, 12 in Waterford, 11 in Limerick, 8 in Wicklow, 7 in Meath, 7 in Kildare, 6 in Laois, 6 in Westmeath, and the remaining 32 cases are located in Cavan, Clare, Donegal, Galway, Kilkenny, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Monaghan, Offaly, Roscommon, Tipperary and Wexford.

Rate of payment
Funding will be awarded for eligible costs up to a maximum of €1,000.
Grants will be awarded on costs related to reopening your business, including:
safety measures
business advice or mentoring
repairs
fuel
wages
Normal business costs are not generally included.
Fuel: Don't know why but I get the feeling fuel is for JCB's, diesel generators, that sort of thing. Not filling up a taxi which could be 'normal business costs'?
Accounting fees: We were probably tax-complaint all through the pandemic. Would filing your tax returns not be 'normal business costs'? Realistically, we could probably still work until our next Suitability without a tax clearance cert?
I don't know the answer - that's why this site is good for sharing info.
-
Come now, Watty. Any accountant worth his salt will throw the tax return in with some professional advice/mentoring... the latter being specifically mentioned as a qualifying expense.

All my spare coin was swalleed up in the 20 weeks I was scratchin and sniffin. Therefore I need free coin to help me back on my feet with immediate, essential and necessary outlay. The klunts probably won't, but they should cover accountant stuff and any other type of things that you need covered to help you out and quench the thirst of the bank account.

Pubs that do no serve food will not be permitted to open as planned in Dublin next week.
However, so called ‘wet pubs’ elsewhere in the country will be able to serve customers for the first time in six months.

The 'Living with Covid' plan - from sports and household gatherings allowed at Level 1 to a return to lockdown at Level 5
Coronavirus Ireland: no further deaths and 208 new cases
There are serious concerns about the spread of the virus in the capital over recent weeks and the government will tomorrow enforce a National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) recommendation asking that wet pubs in Dublin do not open on September 21.
The leaders of the Government parties are believed to have agreed pubs will not open in Dublin next. The Cabinet is expected to sign off on the decision tomorrow morning.
The reopening of pubs has been delayed twice already and there is growing anger among publicans.
But the rising number of new cases in Dublin means pub owners in the Capital will have to wait longer.
Restrictions on the number of people permitted to visit a household will also be introduced in Dublin.
However, the county will not be moved into level three restrictions under the Government’s new plan for living with Covid-19.
Instead, Dubliners will be given another week to reduce the spread of the coronavirus before any further restrictions are implemented.
Under level three of the new plan people will be asked to stay in the regions and restaurants would be only able to take away or delivery of food.

Stark statistic publicised tonight... 5000 cases per DAY in DUBLIN alone by the end of October if they don't stop acting the cunt in the capital. 25-50 of these will be deaths. They're gonna need a bigger boat, if you'll excuse the poor analogy. In more serious terms, they'll need more ventilators if those figures are even half accurate. And all on top of the impending regular flu season.
Anyone get the jab yet, or is it still a bit early? This'll be my first year.

I would seriously never get another one of them flu jabs again. My missus is a nurse and she was always at me to get one. I never bothered because I dont get the flu or other stuff a lot. But you work in a taxi and handling money and drunks snotting on ye and all. No, yer grand I said for years. Then last season, coming in to me 50's, she's banging on again, so I did. I have never had so many head colds and shivers and genuinely under the weather type of feeling week in week out, 3 days good, 4 days bad, for months. Never again.
-
I think I told yiz this before.
it was fuckin deadly.
I got a horrendous case of the flu about 4 years ago around November i think it was.
first time in my life I was genuinely ill.
dying in bed for two weeks.
hot sweats, cold sweats, hot sweats, cold sweats.
I developed a dreadful cough and I did so much coughing that my sides were in agony.
I'd feel a cough coming and it was like getting punched full force in the sides.
I dragged myself outta the scratch and went to dunnes stores and got a cough bottle specifically for phlegm.
went home and necked the whole bottle.
about half an hour later I felt a cough coming on and I was bracing myself for the pain.
instead all the phlegm came up in one go like a big golf ball in my mouth.
I ran to the shitter and spat it out with a big splash.
after that I was A1 brand new again like a flick of a switch.

Never mind needles Daly. Last time I went to me quack for a different matter I certainly wasn't prepared for what he said.
"Just hop up on the bed there and turn over on your side and pull your trousers down a bit" sezee.
Next thing I hears the "Phwtnng" of the rubber glove being snapped on. Then he's rubbing lube on it. ”Ah for fuck sake" I'm thinking. He coulda warned me the last time I was with him. First time ever I had this done.

NEVER AGAIN.
Just dropped off a fare- father and young daughter. When he got in the car obviously I asked him where he was going. He gave me the name of the estate. Two minutes later I asked him where exactly in the estate. The health center he pipes up. Straight away my ears pricked up like fuck, cos I know that's where they're doing the covid testing. I knew straight away that given the child's age and locality that she was in a school where a child tested positive last week. I asked the father if this was the case and he confirmed it. My foot was starting to hit the brakes and I was on the verge of chucking them out on the roadside, such was my anger at the cheek of the bastard to put me in the line of fire. I put all 4 windows down fully and had a few words with him so as to leave him in no doubt at my state of mind. The situation was multiplied 10 fold by him telling me not to worry and it'll be ok. That's red rag stuff to me. He was better off shutting his mouth. If it ever happens again I'll be refusing. This is a prime example of what the government are not even considering when it comes to taxi drivers.
What's Joe Duffy's fuckin number before I blow a fuckin gasket!!

It's like up here on the good Fridays when the pubs were closed here, we were flat out taking fellas that couldn't go one day without a drink, over the border for pints.
Even in the last few months they were going to Newry when they opened up there.

Anybody Confident that the Dinner Clubs will still be selling a Pint and a Pie on Saturday in Dublin .Man who employs casual labour says if there are another 200 cases in Dublin on any day before Saturday NEPhed will recommend padlocks back on ,but will the Government follow advice .
-
NPHED said themselves that they'd consider restrictions if cases went over 200 a day.Government can ignore the advice if they wish.I reckon the pubs will be allowed to stay open for a bit more. There is no appetite for another lockdown. They need toe tax money coming in from the pubs and restaurants.
-
200 cases a day is a lot .If the average reaches 200 per 100,000 that triggers a serious problem under WHO rules so 1.4 million people in Dublin so 2800 active cases in Dublin and it might be taken out of their hands .
-
I dont think the WHO can tell us what to do.The government are gonna manage the risk by locking up the old and vulnerable when they realise people are getting browned off and aren't complying with the guidelines.

I think if the figure goes above 200 per 100,000 the Who say your filthy and that triggers rules on international travel and quarantine .Government wont get away with leaving the cake and porter shops open .You saw what they did in Kildare .Slowed it down .Its also about image your granny cant get a visit in her gaff but your grandad can have a gargle and a pie .200+ more cases today in Dublin and the Pubs close I would think .
You saw yesterday one Minister thought he had the Dredded Lurgy and they all ran for cover .That sent out a message that they are willing to close down anything .
-
Maybe one more lockdown but people are gonna start protesting if they can't do what they want.As it is we don't want international travel so a WHO negative rating would be helpful.I think they're only a talking shop.Trumpy told them to get stuffed.
-
If people are not prepared to obey the guidelines, then fukk em as frankie would say.they are putting the gov't in an impossible position

Dalymount .This is my take on it .The Virus is not as deadly as they think but it damages your health in different ways depending on how good or bad your health is when you get it .It was an unknown quantity when if first struck and POSSIBLY the world over reacted .Now the problem is the medics say if you get it and damage your lungs or heart when you catch anything else you will need to be hospitalized .The big problem is pills and pillows cost a fortune a bed in a hospital for a night costs more than a bed in the Ritz for a night .This might be an Economic Virus money spent now on preventative spreadding could save billions in future hospital costs .plus we dont have enough qualified nurses and doctors .Thats my take on it .Its an Economical problem not a Medical one at the moment .
-
I dont disagree with ya about costs,im still waiting to see my bill for 5 weeks in beaumont, and 2 weeks in the mater plus surgery

THE KING HAS SPOKEN AGAIN...Leo Varadkar has warned moving to further restrictions in Dublin, could be a “death knell” to some businesses.
The Tánaiste denied Dublin has been afforded “special treatment” after immediate level 3 restrictions were avoided under new covid-19 Government plans, despite high case numbers.
-
HIS HIGHNESS SPEAKS AGAIN....Tánaiste Leo Varadkar has said the Green List is to become “a real green list” freeing up people to travel to several European destinations, including for holidays, without having to restrict their movements for 14 days when they return to Ireland.
The Government’s previous overarching advice for people to avoid all non-essential overseas travel, including to Green List countries, has now been amended.
Is he the only Minister in Government are the rest on holiday in Courtown ?

Currently, Louth is the second hardest hit county over the last fortnight, with an incidence of 76.8. This is followed by Leitrim on 71.8.
This means that there are now two other counties in Ireland that have a higher incidence rate than Dublin did when NPHET advised wet pubs should not reopen.
While Waterford, at 64.6, Offaly, at 61.6, and Kildare, at 55.3, are also close to the levels of Covid-19 seen in Dublin last week.

Wonder who brought the pox into Leitrim? They were the poster child. Double figures for months.
The schools are boosting the numbers here in Louth. My sister's young 'fla is locked in his bedroom waiting for a test result since yesterday.

If he was a baldy minister he'd have the result in the length of time you're allowed to stay in a pub with your 9euro meal.

Probably cause he's the only one who can string a sentence today. Some FG-er (Hildegarden?) was on the PK show this morning. All was going well until someone phoned in and asked her to explain how the official advice was not to travel to Donegal but flying to Poland was ok... She ended up talking about Germany for some reason.

For the life of me I still can't fathom why they are, or ever did, encourage people to do that "staycate" bullshit. What's the difference in carrying the plague to or from a foreign country than another part of this fair isle?
As it stands you'd probably be safer going to the Costa Brava than taking your deck chair to the hole- in- the- wall.

NOW HE IS THE MINISTER FOR HEALTH ...Dublin pubs could be open “in a couple of weeks’ time,” the Tánaiste has told the Dáil.
The reopening of the rural pubs from Monday next is a welcome development. “That will, hopefully, allow pubs in Dublin to follow suit in a couple of weeks’ time,” Leo Varadkar said.

If the news is correct then no indoor food to be served so pie pubs become wet pubs so all the Porter Shops will close again in Dublin .
The Cabinet is to consider a request from the National Public Health Emergency Team to stop indoor dining in pubs and restaurants in Dublin.
Given the rise in Covid-19 cases in the capital over the last seven days senior figures are tonight indicating that Government will agree to the proposal.
It would mean that these pubs and restaurants could only serve customers if they have outdoor areas or offer a take-away service.
The Chief Executive of the Restaurants Association of Ireland has said the move would be "a disaster" for his members.
Adrian Cummins said there had been "no prior consultation" with the RAI about such a move.
He said he is "shocked" that stopping indoor dining for a few weeks is being considered given that "the spread of the virus in Dublin is predominantly in households, with very little to almost no cases in the hospitality sector."
He added: "Currently, controlled and regulated environments like restaurants are not the problem, households are."

He's right in that households are CURRENTLY the issue, but if Joe Soap can't stop acting the bollox in his own kitchen how on earth is he gonna behave himself in a room full of other twats full of stout and he full of stout himself?

Its Trumpisim blame somebody anybody .Its simple really when you were a kid if you were a bollox the oulone put you to bed or took away your toys .Now its take away your gargle and smoking area until you get the message be Good .The reason they hit the pus is simple there are more Pubs than Churches or Garages or any other social centers so if you want to get the message across hit them where it counts .There is a Problem in Ireland after being ruled over by Vikings and Brits the Irish DO NOT FOLLOW RULES we interpret them to suit ourselves .Looks Like there was a big outbreak in a Meat Plant in Cork Covered up and I KNOW as I told you earlier there was one in Waterford covered up as well .Seems like the Larry Goodmans of this world still call the shots .Time to GET A GUN.

I was talking to a hotel receptionist yesterday evening, told me their phones rang non stop with booking enquires from dubs yesterday and they are now fully booked out for the next two weeks.
See yaz all next week lads !!

I think now what they should is remove ALL restrictions EVERYWHERE.its seems its going to be impossible to avoid getting the virus,so why not just get it now,and get it over with ?

Dollyer I tried to tell you .The Virus IS NOT DEADLY but it will damage your Chassie fuck up your lungs put strain on your heart .The Medical problem is Preventative .If you catch the Virus you might recover but the damage is done so later in life if you catch Flu or diabeties or some other ailment you will probably need in Hospital care .Now if hospital beds are full of X Covid sufferers and all the Docs and Nurses are working on them cases then the Ordinary Decent Patients wont be able to get a bed and wipp get worse or Die .What the lockdown is is Preventative treatment to offset a future hospital bed shortage .The other big issue is trained staff it takes 5 years to train a nurse and seven to train a Doctor .That is the real problem not enough trained staff world wide .

I have a Mate on the Temple Bar traders Association in Dublin Temple Bar is the Strip up here .He says a lot of the Pubs wont reopen even if they are allowed .Corporation have suspended Commercial rates ,cheaper insurance ,no staff costs associated with closed pubs no heating or lighting .If there are no tourists,Gigs ,Sporting events .Office workers most City pubs couldnt turn a profit .My mate said it would cost 27,000 a week to reopen his pub and that the present conditions they could not generate enough turnover so he recons February next year before they will reopen .Plus Im sure most publicans know they will be back in lockdown within a fortnight .

That's the starting point for any retail venture. You need people in the door. If they're not even leaving their own doors then you have a problem. It'll be a telling tale to see how many slip back into their old pub routine, or how many have genuinely changed their habits by default since march.

The capacity has been massively reduced in all pubs. Some pubs that used to be able to squeeze in a hundred are only allowed in thirty now.In one of my locals the barman goes around with a counter clicker thingy to keep tabs on the numbers.
Like I said before anyone who wanted a drink could get one already. There wouldn't be a huge number of people who have been staying at home since March.
-
It's the city bars that are hit, I guess. The culchies are cashing in with heavy drinking dubs instead of tight fisted yanks... Maybe Level 3 should encourage dubs to staycate in Dublin or maybe we need a level 2.34 for that?
-
Talking about tight fisted yanks,I have been told they were advised not to tip.who would give this advice, and why ? Whos business is it anyway wether they tip or not ?
-
The ones on coach trips are usually advised not to tip because "porterage" is included in what they pay so the hotel porters get €1/bag or whatever at every stop and waiting staff are appropriately tipped as far as inclusive meals are concerned. They're also advised that Europeans don't share the tipping culture you find in the U.S. where it's not uncommon to see signs stating that staff "work for tips". An Italian friend of mine is quite opposed to tipping over there and actually maintains that tips can be construed as insults in their culture.
-
Well they can insult me any time they want,I dont mind being insulted
-
Sure we know you're never at the back of the queue where handouts are concerned... maybe that's because you're not Italian.
