That might be the case but they still have to wear branded clothing, sell that brands products or face consequences which ultimately could mean the franchise agreement being broken and the shop not being that branded shop anymore.
So kinda similar to a radio company, if you wan5 to sign up there is “the companies” terms and conditions, if you don’t like them don’t sign up.
I’m self employed, I use apps to get work as it’s benficial and that’s the way customers get taxis. Very few people flag on the street, and when they do it’s probably because they are banned from an app, too pissed to operate their phone to get a taxi, or lost their phone or that the app isn’t working and can’t find them a taxi.
