Self employed

I wonder do any of you radio company subscriber's come under the terms of the new memo which is to be brought to cabinet tomorrow ? It is basically a proposal by minister Regina Doherty  to address people who have been forced by their respective employers to declare themselves to be self employed, when in actual fact they are employees of that company.this is been done apperently because it saves the employer millions on PSRI contributions.as most drivers fall under the category of being forced to declare to be self employed, but who are actually employees of the radio scumbags ( at least the radio scumbags believe you are their employees as is evident by the way they treat you,) I just wondered how will this effect you ?

I suppose this could cover a range of jobs -  delivery drivers, bike couriers, Fast Food delivery people etc etc

I work for mytaxi but I'm still classed as self-employed. I prefer it that way though, allowable deductions are significantly less under PAYE.
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

There's a withholding tax regime for payments to subbies. Maybe that's what's required for the gig economy, Uber, mytaxi, Airbnb, etc...?

In what way? If you work for a taxi firm you have to obey the rules. Only last week I got an email from mytaxi telling me I would be sacked if I broke the rules... like I didn't already know that.

They use (or employ, if you prefer) me to cover their work. They call the shots. It's their work and they can cover it however they please. In fact, the firm I work for (mytaxi) uses hackneys and clapped out shiteboxes masquerading as limousines as well as taxis to cover it's work and it is a proponent of P2P rideshare. I don't have the power to sack them - yes, I could leave but I'd be replaced, they'd still have the work and it'd still be covered - but they do have the power to sack me. In fact, as noted above, they made that perfectly clear by email last week.

Nothing. I think it was a general warning sent to all drivers who work for the firm. It centred on passing on parking fees on Zone 18 jobs.
