The estimated cost to the Exchequer of the National Broadband Plan increased from €1bn to €3bn between December 2015 and April 2018, according to new information about the tendering process from the Department of Communications.

The final figure was crystalised following more than 400 meetings between senior officials with potential bidders regarding the level of market risk they would be prepared to take and the amount of money they would invest.

Maybe they're like Ryanair, overestimating how long flights will take so they can pretend they arrive ahead of schedule?

Maybe the real cost is 2bn so if they say 3bn, they can claim victory if the cost comes in at 2bn?

The originalcost was 500million .By the time they install this it willbe obsolete .Its just a vote getter for rednecks .Farmers say they need it for business .Wait till the cow is chipped and how much milk it gives or how much he sells for is all recorded .Watched a programme from New Zealand where cattle dont get sold at marts but on line the animals passport records its weight and vet records or milk yield then you post a picture or video and the cow is auctioned and picked up by cow taxi .Im sure Paddy the farmer willbe delighted when every penny he earns is recorder .

of course they will .Picked up a fella from Power Tower he said over 70% of Powers business is now done on line but he said their takings are down 12% due to competition from other on line bookies .Punters are shopping around for value there is no brand loyalty .If what he says is right then Powers Share price should drop especially now they reduced the payout on Slot machines in bookies Im sure Powers have big mortgages and leases in the UK that are killing them .Tech will kill the cash economy .

Ah God be with the days we done all this crap the conventional way.I remember being up on a pole years ago out in straffen in Kildare.I was up doing some work on a distribution box on the pole .belt belt secured to both me,and the pole.to this day,I will never forget how lucky I was,the fukking pole broke at the butt.it was marked suspect ,but I didnt see it.down I came,with the pole in tow.the last lad it happened to was killed before he even hit the ground.that gives you some idea how lucky I was

There’s only a handful of reasons for national broadband, and one of them is to cope with the increase in card payments. Every terminal needs a phone line or internet connection. More card payments means more terminals which means more phone lines or internet connections
