Cheers John. Just paid 87 there for 2 of the 3 tablets that I need and still have to go back for another one that I've to start on the 15th. No idea how much that one costs.

No Ken, I've no insurance or medical card. In saying that one of my mates had a bang a few years back, had to get 3 stents in and a few other things sorted. They hit him for a bill for 3 or 400 quid and he was in for a right few weeks so I'm hoping my bill will be manageable.

Diet Horse ---when I suffered same shit --I smoked ,drank like a fish and worked 60/70 hours a week --

Imagine you have an  open sore in your stomach and when you awake you pour tea/coffee on it while having your first smoke --its never going to heal ,I converted to porridge ,7 days a week --disgusting I thought but 30 years on I am still here with cholesterol still  about 5---its a great start to the day --avoid harsh flavours --lemons --garlic --and shit food full of preservatives!

As for drugs when I went with my script to the local chemist in 1986--he remarked "I hope you have your cheque book "my months supply of the 3 tab shandy 260 pounds--a pint was about 1,30 and juice about 40 cent a litre --I think !

But I was right as rain in weeks --don't worry Horse you've escaped--

'3 or 400 quid' a night would be a lot closer to the mark.
But at least you can claim it back in next years tax returns.

My last ulcer bill was 600 and that was just as a day patient.
My Diverticulitis bill back in 2005, 8-10 days in hospital including 2 days in intensive care was 6k.

Fluke it Ken, whatever it is it'll have to be paid. Can you pay in installments or do they look for the lot in one go? How long before they ask to be paid? If I've to borrow so be it.

I'll be getting private insurance as soon as I can afford it for any future visits which are bound to occur at some stage.

Cheers punts, I'll be making a few lifestyle changes for sure. Don't have a choice really. In the words of Amon Goth, the party's over Oscar, they're shutting us down.

I had hip replacements done in Cappagh Hospital. I was in for three days each time @ €80.00 per day. Good value since I too, do not have private health insurance, or a medical card.

That's what I like to hear Bullets, not that you had to get hips done but that the cost is not second mortgage material.  Nice one.

I dunno that Horse, I have private medical insurance since I was a teenager back in the Eighties paid fer by the company I worked fer. I kept it renewed myself personally after the company went belly-up during the last recession.

At over 50 your premium will be on the high side, the reality being that they just don't want over 50's.
