What are the rules do you need to apply before you buy the vehicle or can you apply retrospectively? I suppose the best way is to get pre approved just to be certain you will get it Anybody know for certain how it works ?

I don't know shit about WAV grants except there are none at the moment.  I decided a long time ago not to worry about things that don't affect me.

For taxis and wheelchair accessible taxis, this number is required for programming the taximeter and purchasing the matching roof sign and taxi branding. The Conditional Offer is valid for 90 days, during which you must complete the other steps in the licensing process.

Note: The Conditional Offer is not a licence to operate the vehicle as an SPSV.

The next steps are to:

    Ensure that your vehicle meets all the requirements for operation as an SPSV,
    Make sure that you have all the required documentation, and
    Book the vehicle’s Initial Suitability Inspection.

I think the main question with the WAV grants is whether you are awarded/paid the grant before you buy the motor. Next year's grant scheme has been announced, as reported in the latest issue of Industry Update:

From what I posted a few posts back, it sounds like you buy the WAV first, get a conditional offer from the NTA, get it kitted out and only then go for the initial suitability to make it an official taxi.

I don't think you can just post in a brochure from the showroom and get a cheque in return!




I have a *very vague* memory from the old site that some ran into bother importing vans from the UK but ran into trouble getting them certifiied by an Irish engineer/mechanic.  The Irish engineer wouldn't verify another man's work (or something like that).  I could be wrong!

Based on application I made last year.

Apply for approval,  there was a maximum number of applications. Current tax clearance is a.requirement.

Anyone after that went onto a waiting list. As many applicants dont follow through.

You will receive provisional approval by letter & information on how to progress the grant application. Which is same as getting to your conditional offer. Vehicle inspected and approved as a WAT by engineers. go through whole process to getting suitablity completed and grant paid within 6 to 8 weeks afterwards.

The mobility car sales company. Freedom mobility I think over in the west of Ireland will accept your offer letter as deposit. They have a deal with NTA that grants are paid directly to them. Guy said he arrange finance for balance if you have 6 months clean healthy looking bank statements.

If.you shop around on UK car sites you.can find 2010 to 2011 peugeot partners for around £3k to £4k.and with VRT and currency conversion get it on road here for about €5500 to €6500. Then add usual NTA fees for vehicle licence etc.
That would qualify you for minimum €2.5k WAT grant.

You would need to up the year to 2012 minimum in 2018 as the oldest age for WAT minimum grant of.€2.5k is six years old.

Correct. Same way you have to fork out for home improvement grants before they recompense you. The engineer report thing cause murder though as the taxis passed out for WAT work in Norn Iron were not deemed acceptable by "one" engineer. Their listings might not be definitive...Irish enough?

I thought they eliminated the engineers' cartel by imposing the European M1 specification i.e. M1 is M1 all over Europe?

There seems to be an influx of clapped out Peugeot Partners (and clones thereof) from the UK, the Ebbseseses alone are rumoured to have 56,793 of them in a parking lot waiting to join the dozen odd that they've plated to date.

They have now regarding the mini-WAVS. The initial issue was exclusively real-WAT based. Peugeot Experts from Antrim were rejected as suitable because the definitive list did not exist definitively. Grants are hardly available for Berlingos and Partners?

Grants are available for all WATs including the Partner and it's clones subject to the limits set out within the relevant documentation. The vast majority of WATs licensed these days are clapped out Partners imported from the UK so they must be acceptable from an engineering perspective.
