Indeed SB....i'm a 12yr veteran of the Prius(Gen 2 for 9yrs and current Gen 3)...i've taken some stick on here over the years...cried myself to sleep on loads of occasions cos of the sexual slurs of a homophobic nature....i even had to ride the missus a few times to reassure myself of my testosterone filled masculinity and heterosexuality!!

So your doing well from the slaging,
We can continue if you wish,

So Sore is saying
5.4L petrol for 100 KM
At €1.50 per litre  = € 8.25 for 100 km

5.4 doesn't impress me. My diesel octy is very close to that... why cope with an extra "engine" and a 3 grand battery pack to save nothing?

Probably. SB noted 4.1 which concurs with your 4.5 as he works nights while you work days.

As each Prius evolved they got a bit more efficient. The new model gets 65mpg according to some of my passengers.Apparently it has the lowest thermal efficiency for any combustion engine ever produced. They really try to squeeze ever bit from the fuel.

Those batteries must have a huge environmental cost?

Dunno with the amount of fuel it saves over the life of the vehicle it probably balances out.I'm not really an environmentalist and even if I was I'd be driving a horse and cart or rickshaw. All cars are dirty in some way.

There's a lot of bollox out there with regard to batteries....afaik they're 100% recyclable at end of life and as MFH says, the fuel saving over the life of the vehicle probably outweighs a lot of shite.

I think your calculation of mpg is on the US gallon. 1 US gallon = 3.78L  while the UK gallon = 4.54L
My dash reading is 52 mpg which converts to 5.4L/100km (UK mpg)
https://www.calculateme.com/gas-mileage/british-mpg-to-liters-per-100-km

while if you use US mpg you will get 4.5L/100km

Am getting  5.4L/100km which is 8.1 euro for 100km.  That is 12.4km per euro. For 10 euro its 124km

I must add my mpg would have been much better if i was a more eco-friendly driver. I am not so gentle on
the accelerator and am hardly ever on the Eco-mode. Cant remember the last time i used the EV-mode. Its
always on Normal-mode bordering on Power-mode. I believe SB's 4.1L/100km is achievable with a good
driving style. Well done SB.
