Same paragraph says "A Taxi Permit Holder may only hold one permit at any time although daa recognizes he/she may be an additional driver on another permit." - suggests (informal) rental regime is still in operation. However, it also says "Except by prior written agreement with the customer, taxi drivers may not charge more than the metered fare
and must give customers a printed receipt."!

Airport permits?0
Non transferable.
Yes they are..
Retiring drivers are allowed to pass their Taxi Permit to their son or daughter
(provided they hold a PSV license)

Errr, no they`re not.
I've only been on this forum under a year, but you should all know by now that I don't spoof or make things up.
My source is the DAA taxi operation manual May 1st 2018 edition.
So err,yes you can(to your son or daughter)
Err, no. But if you can point me to the relevant page and paragraph I `ll have a look.

Try the bottom of page 16.

I stand corrected Van ! Retiring drivers are allowed to pass their Taxi Permit to their son or daughter
(provided they hold a PSV license). A Taxi Permit Holder may only hold one permit at
any time although daa recognizes he/she may be an additional driver on another permit.

Bit like council houses... if you're Irish by accident of birth, forget it unless you're a traveller.

The DAA never asked for payment, we volunteered it in 92/93.

Why ?

Sorta like Terminator....they sent a taximan into the future to terminate Bobby Molloys mother but hadn't counted on Bertie protecting her but discovered the backhander instead....the rest is history.....or maybe it hasn't been written yet!!

Why ?
Because they didn`t see the trap . All history now and too long to type. Suffice to say DAA played a blinder and got drivers to offer payment without asking for it.

There was profit involved, to be fair. When I first worked the DAA rank we paid 40p per job and charged £1.20 pick up.

That was the end result. The initial idea was something completely different. Regardless, we went from £10 a year for sticker to hundreds, no thousints a year.
