did your coolant bottle degrade and the hoses crumble and leak fluid like a sieve.
that's standard on an Octavia.
I have that on my 2007 Octavia!  Levels are ok for 3 or 4 days then half it disappears overnight!

I'd say you're nuts taxiing a Renault but I guess you might as well wreck shite as a decent motor!
I used to think the same but the 24hr.mechanic crowd (PSV.ie?) on Tolka Valley Rd have a load of Renaults rented out.  But they are moving over to Priusssssss, I think.

If you got 3 yrs out of a e6,000 Fluence, that's approx e40/wk over 3 years (with maintenance on top of that).  You'd probably pay double that for a similar year Prius (excl maintenance), I reckon?
My fluence needs a new ventilation fan.About a 1200 euro job.Id rent a fluence, but I'm not sure id buy one.

Once you put 200000 on a fluence that's it, in and out the garage and a lot of mechanics don't want to work on them. I got rid of it when it had 330000 on it. Injectors gone and problem with dpf system. Even linders didn't want to fix it.

I might of been unlucky with the flunce. I've been driving an octavia the last two and a half years, bought it with very high mileage, 1.6  and haven't touched it. Only service. Opposite to John m.

Not sure that SDA using Renaults is much of an endorsement, WD. It specialises in renting pure shite at rock bottom prices. Perhaps the move to Priuseyeses is recognition of a false economy... even with an army of scrap yard workers to keep busy on repairs?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I thought I had experienced everything that can go wrong with Octys with Trigger's brush... but, again, the gearbox never went. Similarly with Mrs. Catcher's MKII, no gearbox or coolant leaking issues. I wonder if the lads having trouble replaced the gearbox oil or coolant. You're not supposed to but, if you do, it's important to use the correct stuff. Obviously, the rubber and plastic in the cooling system is no different from any other car so if they are disintegrating it must be down to the chemicals, maybe wrongly mixed chemicals?

I'll get more info but AFAIK he bought it new.Dunno if it's auto or manual.I heard it's still giving grief and might end up going back to the dealer.

Very little servicing in VAGs these days. Aside from topping up the screenwash the only fluids you need to touch are the engine oil (change with new filter every 20k is more than sufficient) and the brake fluid - change after 3 years and then every 2 years. Outside of that the pollen filter should be replaced every 60k - but I've always done mine at 40k 'cos I always have the cabin air on low - and the fuel and air filters every 90k. Piece of piss compared to all the bits and pieces that had to be done to older cars. The NCTS provide the annual inspection of steering, suspension, etc at a very reasonable rate.

I've only had the MKIII for a couple of months but I've already driven 10,000 kilos in her. Unlike the MKI and MKII I had to top up the engine oil by 640ml the other day. I only checked it because I was at it to change the brake fluid (it turned 3 this month) and a colleague told me they consume oil. The MKI and MKII never consumed more than 300ml between service intervals of 20k (so never required a top up) but this 1.6 engine seems to be completely different to previous VAG diesels e.g. despite being smaller it takes more oil (4.6L I think) than the MKII (3.8L). If/When the MKII consumes that amount of oil I'll switch it to the thicker 10W40 but that's not an option with the MKIII as the thinner 5W30 is specified for both fixed and variable service intervals so I'll just have to get into the habit of checking it every month with the screenwash, I guess.

I've heard horror stories with the 6 speed DSG... that's a wet clutch system so you have to change the fluid/oil every 60k and, obviously, all the friction material from the clutch can circulate through the gear mechanisms. My yoke has the dry (fluid shouldn't be changed) 7 speed DSG200. In that system the clutch - actually a twin clutch pack with one clutch for odd gears and another for even gears - is mounted outside of the "wet" gearbox module. I'd say the clutch pack will cost a small fortune when it goes and, obviously, it will wear out at some point.

Stuff what car dealers try to sell to you .I was talking to a salesman who tried to sell me insurance that would cover the difference between the write off value and the outstanding balance of any loan if you crashed .I was talking to anothe main dealer who said this insurance does not apply to commercial loans like vans or cars used as taxies .Is this going to be another PPSi insurance con .
