Taxi drivers protesting against the College Green partial ban between 7am and 10am have threatened further action if the decision is not reversed. This morning's protest was very well attended with up to 60 full-time drivers representing the combined membership of all of the national and local unions.

Complaining about earning more money .He could of turned Left down Parnell Street onto Capel Street over the bridge around the back of the castle onto Golden Lane dropped at the Hairy lemmon but that would be the short way .
-
I've a job lot of buckets that i can hand out...ifn they're needed!!
-
Either way, he has to modify the route so it's not the tried and tested path he's familiar with. In practice, Google will find the most efficient route for us I guess.
-
We have to organise this... proper..What type of sandwedges are ya bringing 2 morrow...I will get the wife to make a assortment of turkey and salad...egg...jam on brown..and crisps in white...for the fussy
-
Would it be beneficial to get someone elected onto D.C.C.?

When is the strike?I thought I read somewhere about a TTnh strike.

Did you not hear you missed it . Funny how this is an issue but 1600 new drivers being recruit into the industry dosent seem to matter even though there are no vehicles for them to drive .There was no protest when they made the New Nutts one way preventing drivers from turning if they had a job going east now they have to pick up on the Nutts drive over the cobbles turn left back up to Cufe Street on to Stephens green South then turn left and possibly left again to get on to Dawson Street then right and left onto Nassau Street and off you go unless you turned left onto Merrion Row .either way no mention of this detour fromthe Reps .Hard to know what actually constitutes a detour in Repworld .
-
1600 new drivers won't be getting kesh passes so why would they give a shite. They're operating in a closed shop.

1600newly qualified drivers will be headed to the courts to have the moritorium removed ,hard to justify it if you have trained the drivers .I will come back to my old warning .Clare County Council recieved 30K to look into driverless cars or UBER type services in their area .Remember Minister Ross said he would not allow unlicenced DRIVERS operate .The ECJ ruled that UBER type services must be regulated a first step in regulation could be licencing drivers it would also raise funds for the NTA .
-
None of that makes sense.Serves me right for responding to yer shite.

Really 1600 new drivers being recruited Why there are no vehicles for them to drive So there are only two reasons torecruit more drivers 1 you want more taxies if soyou must make themavailable or 2 you want more qualified psv drivers to operate their own vehicles .UBER type rideshare is NOT illegal it just must be regulated .
-
There are plenty of rentals sitting empty for various reasons. They'll be driving rentals.
-

The Ebbsess are looking after that....."we'll supply the jammers if youse supply the drivers.....cushty!!"

They even changed the rules one individual can apply for as many WAT grants as he wants and Mytaxi will even add a grand to it .With cheap second hand WATs and grants its cheaper now than ever to get into this industry .

Calm your jets - those 1600 will have to get through vetting first... https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/SPSV_Industry_Update_Issue_40_February_2018.pdf (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/SPSV_Industry_Update_Issue_40_February_2018.pdf)
NTA has been in contact with An Garda Síochána following an upward trend in calls to the Industry Information Line about SPSV Driver Licence renewal turnaround times. An Garda Síochána has advised
that it is currently experiencing a particularly large volume of both applications and renewals throughout the country but principally in the Dublin Carriage Office
NTA might be hedging their bets. A huge portion of the fleet are driving vehicles aged 10yrs and older. Plus, a lot of the official complaints are now about drivers and the 'suitability' test won't solve that. Might be time to retire the older drivers and older vehicles and get in new customer-friendly drivers and vehicles (e.g. electric & WATS)?
- If we don't upgrade, they'll open the floodgates to new drivers to rent from the MPO's. Much easier to deal with 100 MPO's than 20,000 drivers?
- If we do upgrade, they could change their mind (like they did with the 3yr rule for new entrants and their vehicles) & stop new entrants.

What a waste of sandwedges...
-
there is STILL far to many taxis on the road, and the fucking NTA want to put another 1600 out there .HOW THE FUKK ARE WE EVER GOING TO SURVIVE ?ah still I suppose the radio company gangsters will be delighted. another 1600 self employed, who are not really self employed at all .
-
None of that makes sense.Serves me right for responding to yer shite.
Merc read this carefully and see if this is your definition of rideshare ....The Minister has asked the National Transport Authority (NTA) to assess the roll-out of community car services and the level of demand for such a scheme to be developed. Local volunteers would use their own car to help individuals who have difficulty accessing forms of transport but could receive some financial payment.
The Department of Transport has also contacted Insurance Ireland to assess the likely cost of insurance for a publican to drive patrons home.
-
Did somebody say sandwedges ?
-
so are we on strike or wha ?
-
There will be a shortage of 'Supply' on the streets if'n TTnH go on strike !
-
They go golfing on Mondays....so that rules that out!!
-

Ken nobody will support this nonsence bt TTna H there is a bigger detour for drivers in Dublin that they never had any issue with ... Lads know what this is about .The lads out in the airport are upset because of this College detour which might cost them an extra 10 minutes to return to the mothership multiply that by 6 jobs a day they are down an hour working time .
-
- If we do upgrade, they could change their mind (like they did with the 3yr rule for new entrants and their vehicles) & stop new entrants.
To be fair, they only changed their mind to stop issuing saloon plates. No plates being issued is better than plates being issued for 3YO cars from our perspective.
-

All approved by the so-called drivers' representatives on TAC. One, Joe Heron, even went to the media to report that 20,000 drivers have left the trade because they got better jobs. How much do you reckon the dispatchers put in his phoca for that one?
-
well I don't know if Joe heron made such a statement or not, but there is certainly no evidence of that many drivers having left the insustry, because what's left would STILL cut your fucking throat to get passed you in case there's a fare up ahead
-
is it not the case that John Udder (rip) refused to allow a few more plates into the game, and the response of the powers that be was to open the floor gates ? at least that's what I have been told
-
Almost... well, not quite. John agreed to Bertie's Forum which was a structured approach to issuing WA plates to cosies. However, Minister Molloy then announced his intention to double the number of plates by issuing an additional plate to the holder of each plate then in issue. The filthy, stinking hackney men took exception to that so challenged the decision in court in what became known as the deregulation case. The rest is history.

That's one of many reports I read. Joe was all over the national media telling anyone that'd give him the time of day that 20,000 men have left the trade for better jobs. No mention of rising insurance costs forcing men out of business, no recollection of the licence fee increase (€2 to €250) that resulted in thousands of inactive licences lapsing. Someone is obviously paying for this bulls!t, it's certainly not what his idiot members are paying for!
-
one of my all time favourite foot in mouths.
2700 illegal taxis stayed home to dodge the garda checkpoints.
https://m.herald.ie/news/thousands-of-city-taxi-drivers-hide-from-gardai-30393493.html
-
i have spoken to a lot of older drivers in the past, and most of them blamed John saying it was his refusal to agree to allow more plates that caused the massive influx that is the irish taxi market today
-
That's probably easy enough to dismiss as the mouth being a few dozen paces ahead of the brain, Doc. I take a more cynical view of Joe's campaign. It's no secret that the dispatch firm reps on TAC want more taxis/hackneys/rideshare. Hard not to conclude that they successfully "lobbied" Joe to pave the way for NTAs recruitment drive.
It's a valid point of view, DM. However, to be fair to John et al, they did manage to maintain a closed shop for 22 years. The facts of entry liberalisation are as I posted some moments ago but, as you note, there are drivers who speculate that the deregulation case might not have happened if Bertie's Forum took a more aggressive approach to increasing numbers, something all the unions would have opposed. We should also note that entry liberalisation itself wasn't the disaster many of us envisaged. Minister Molloy told me at the time that it mightn't be as bad as I thought and he was right. It was only when the economy collapsed in 2008 that the trade became unviable. The problem, of course, is how do you safeguard against boom/bust economics with no significant barriers to entry?
-
one question I never fail to ask of my local politician's is, how the fuck are the foreigners passing the detailed knowledge test when some of rhem cannot even speak ducking English ?
-
plenty of dublin drivers i know can barely speak english.
-
yeah , I can't argue with that
-
The test is supposed to have a very low pass rate. It'll be interesting to note how that changes as NTA/TAC are actively recruiting drivers. It's interesting that all the drivers featured in the wireless advertisements sound like they are Irish by accident of birth yet c.2/3 new entrants are immigrants. I wonder if the advertisements employ actual drivers, drivers voiced by actors or just actors...
-
on another note altogether.
the current dispute involving taxi drivers, and the proposal to close off collage green to the aforementioned.
would the competition authority not view this as unfair practice towards taxi drivers consisering the LUAS will be permitted to operate ?
we are after all part of the national transport system are we not, and we are being told we cannot compete for transport work ?
-

So are we unfair competition for other modes of transport as we can pick up anywhere while busses must stop at bus stops Aeroplanes must stop at airports trains in stations etc etc etc
-
Ya don't need good English to read a map AFAIK..
-
...but you do need good English to type the address into a sat-nav/smartphone...
-
The test is multiple choice so if you know the first few letters you'd recognise the word, maybe.
Anyway I had a look at the brother's after test summary and it itemises all the parts of the test where ya went wrong.Back when I did it the fail wasn't so detailed. They're nearly holding the candidates hands.
-
other modes of transport have designated areas where they ply their trade as you suggest.
my question was are we being unfairly treated by DCC proposal to ban us from collage green in favour of the LUAS ?

Are DAA being unfair restricting access to the airport .DCC are restricting access for health and safety which covers whatever the fuck they want it to cover .

Maybe the scumbag cab companies could advocate Sham marriages, perhaps even with a few of their FBC,s posing as the Brides.
@ 7K a pop, you'd have 1600 Pakistani and Afghan Gents in no time.
-
if the rat is right about what Joe heron said, (and I don't know if he is or not) then I would have serious concerns about his ability to represent his members who are currently aligned to his orginisatuon.
if fact there are implications for ALL of us if this man is actively advising the NAT that we need more drivers.
however, as I said, I don't know if the rat is correct or not.
i would find it hard to believe
-
i have just read the report of what Joe heron said, and I think it was completely unnecessary to make such a statement.
all this will do , is help to fan the flames, and encourage the NTA to continue with their recruitment drive.
I'm very surprised at an industry representative making such a statement, I wonder now, who's interest does he have at heart.
-
I'm not sure why you question whether I am right or not. I'm always right and, on this occasion, I am merely reporting substantiated fact. It's not something he said once, he launched a structured campaign across the national media. This was done before NTA unveiled it's recruitment drive hence it was clearly intended to pave the way for said recruitment drive.
Whatever you might think of Joe, he's not thick. He didn't forget about the licence fee increase and he was well aware of how insurance premium increases impacted on drivers. It doesn't take a whole lot of imagination to conclude that the dispatchers were pulling his strings.
-
Rodent Back to my Favourite Subject Rideshare .Shane Ross TD Minister for Transport has stated on the record he would not allow unlicenced DRIVERS carry passengers for profit .there was an advertisement recently for people in Kildare to apply to get a SPSV drivers licence . .Why would the NTA be advertising location specific unless there is a plan for the provision of some sort of vehicle for these newly qualified drivers .Ialways like to look at all parts of the puzzle .There was a recent post about drivers in Letterkenny who were offering 5 euro being done by the taxiwhatsit for not using the meter for nearly ten years ..The best way to make sure both drivers and users cancontinue to avail of the supply of the 5 euro local is to provide for it in legislation by the provision of Rideshare .The local taxi drivers can then rent their plate to a driver in the Metropolis and save on suitability and bypass the 9 year rule .A win win for everybody .Cheaper trips for passengers reduced costs for rural drivers plus a few quid from plate rental and an ample supply of rental plates for new Metropolitan drivers .
-
i have to tell you, I was completely shocked when I read the report.
i cannot believe this man is still leader of the orginisatuon he proports to represent.
i also cannot believe there has been no move this man from office
-
They represent a minority of drivers but have way too much access to the media.
-
The other unions - some of which are also represented on TAC - are remarkably quiet about the recruitment drive. Instead they choose to protest about a 3 hour partial ban from College Green. Even on that protest they got Dave Knox to address the media for them. As I'm sure you're aware, Dave is an habitual double jobber who is currently promoting Flag, a new app based dispatch firm.
-
i have to tell you, I was completely shocked when I read the report.
i cannot believe this man is still leader of the orginisatuon he proports to represent.

Why would they remove him he is doing great work for the people he works for .The KESH thats what it is all about the lads in there probably cover 1 job an hour the protest is about then losing about ten minutes on the journey due to the College Gate changes which could cost them 1 job a day .Now another little thing Joe knows is if there is a shortage of taxies in Dublin City somebody in the NTA might ask where are all the taxies and it might expose the big carpark out at the airport and then the likes of Cuffe or Monty might ask is this for real .Taxi drivers que up there waiting for work then drive back empty wasting fuel and creating emissions and congestion while drivers who have dropped off return to the City Empty creating congestion and wastefull emissions ..What is really happening is the reps are making sure that there is never any shortage of taxies that might bring the evel eye on their closed shop .They dont give a fuck if there are a few thousand extra drivers or cars as long as there are no changes in the KESH they maintain their business model .Couldnt be simpler to understand .
-
Why would they remove him .
He's either incompetent or corrupt, take your pick.
-
Why would they remove him .
He's either incompetent or corrupt, take your pick.
Or very compedent in representing what he represents .
-
If he represents dispatch operators, yes. Don't forget half the work that DAA licensed drivers get is work the (app) dispatch firms can't cover hence they need more drivers.
-
i find it difficult to understand why the existing drivers (forget about the kesh) have not expressed any critisim of a so called union leader who has clearly acted against their interest.Mr Joe Heron I ask you to come on here and justify your actions
-
If he represents dispatch operators, yes. Don't forget half the work that DAA licensed drivers get is work the (app) dispatch firms can't cover hence they need more drivers.
Itch and Scratch .We will scratch your itch if you stay clear of our Kesh .Why have the big App providers never challenged the restricted practice .The review clearly stated that the Minister wanted ALL drivers alligned with a dispatcher and taxies available at all transport hubs .
-
there could be something in what rat says.
dispatchers get more drivers, union gets more members, NTA gets more money licences, and at the same time satisfies public demand for more taxis. everyone's a winner, except the poor plans like us
-
It's actually easy when you realise that most of the lads on the ranks in town today couldn't pick Joe Heron or any rep from a lineup of their lives depended on it.We don't see them anywhere. They don't drive taxis. How would we ever meet them or know anything about them.
In fact I'd struggle to recognise the chap if I had to.
-
Joe drives a taxi. Even when he was running his meter installation business he had time to drive his taxi on the side. Is the Fed opposed to double jobbers?
-
in fairness MFH, I think your wrong there, they are ALL taxi drivers as far as I know
but regardless of that it's incredible that this man is a union leader IS hate to see what he'd be like if he was our enemy
-
I see the TTnh chap in the Octy in Fosters but that's about it.I never see any recruiting.Last time I was approached by TTnh and that was 7 years ago. They may own taxis but they're not working them often. Not complaining just an observation.
-
I couldn't even name all the unions. We must be the most united trade in the universe with so many...
-
United we stand divided we fall, only now there will be another 1600 to unite with thanks to me heron chief recruitment officer for the dispatchers, and the NTA
-
Dalymount .There was a way to unite and nobody including the taxiwhatsit d want it .I made a submission to the review that ALL taxies in URBAN areas should be WATs and everything elas in ruralareas should be WAT hack or saloon hack.If that idea was accepted then we would of had a public service obligation to pick up wheelchair users .This could of opened up the door to grants and tax rebates for the purchase of vehicles .We are only Couriers whodeliver people instead of boxes but unlike couriers we spend more time moaning rather than doing deliveries .This is a totally non skilled job most paper boys could find their way around Dublin in a car they bought for a ton .
-
