That's the people who actually turned up and voted. I don't the number but maybe 50% or more stayed at home, meaning the 'leave' vote was less than half of the total population...

I work up above in Dublin so I experience complete breakdown of law and order, sometimes on a daily basis. It's frustrating to see open gangland warfare destroy the city and equally frustrating to see it spread to rural towns and villages. It's not a laughing matter, Gardai seem to have very little interest in enforcing the law, particularly in working class areas.
By contrast, my sister who lives in what would be considered to be an affluent rural area of Fingal recently noticed what she thought was prowlers climbing a gate into her garden from her field and within 10 minutes her property was surrounded by Gardai on the ground with a helicopter providing light. Fortunately it just turned out to be a couple of over enthusiastic "lampers".

Boxers tend not to live past 10 anyway but he was a crossbreed so thougth he'd hit 12 or 13........Christmas Day just gone he was looking at me as though he wanted me to end it................didn't want to accept it though.

All the money I've spent on vet fees and pet insurance over the years was worth it when the dog deterred two scummers from breaking into me old gaff.The dog is relatively harmless but he made enough racket to make them go elsewhere.
We rang the cops as there was a screwdriver mark on the hall door amd they said other gaffs had been done that day.Two brothers from Hartstown were later found in another gaff by the cops who tried to attack them with a hammer when an arrest was attempted.

Smaller dogs can hit 16 or even older............same as humans..........bigger ones don;t seem to be able to go as long. Mate offered me a another Boxer cross but definitely not going near them again.........neurotic and very intelligent........too demanding. Whatever you do when it happens, Merc...........go on a long holiday and keep away form Cesar Milan and Paul O'Grady on the box........Mate loves them and looked after my 2 when I was on holliers.........he has 5 dogs....

Haven't had a dog for a while now, last retriever finally kicked it with arthritis and cancer about 8 years ago. My daughter has a beagle, and the way it guards her 2 year old daughter and tolerates all the child's messing woud warm yer heart.

All the money I've spent on vet fees and pet insurance over the years was worth it when the dog deterred two scummers from breaking into me old gaff.The dog is relatively harmless but he made enough racket to make them go elsewhere.
We rang the cops as there was a screwdriver mark on the hall door amd they said other gaffs had been done that day.Two brothers from Hartstown were later found in another gaff by the cops who tried to attack them with a hammer when an arrest was attempted.

I had one.Outside the M50 in larger estates nobody really notices the alarms.Ya check your neighbours on each side but they're largely ignored as many go off by accident.The one I have now can be set remotely via app and if anyone breaks in it goes off on my phone.Only cost a fiver a month.But still, scumbags don't care they'll be through the gaff before anyone turns up.
I didn't get the mutt for security but it's just an added bonus.

I agree with you on the dog shit everywhere.We allways bring disposable bags with us but you can be carrying them around for ages...trying to find a bin to put it in.Sorry to hear about your dog Lip.Our dog gets me out in the Parks every day for a 3 or 4 k.walk .Our Spaniel goes over and gets the lead around 3 or so every day Otherwise I would be sitting down like a couch potato.She is so good for my health ..Love her so much

'Rhine Sparkle' was her name, A 2yo Brindle greyhound bitch bought by me Daza back in the Seventies fer 2K.
2K was big money back then and the seller advised me Da that the bitch was 'Hard Work' and not easy to control.
Myself and 'Spar' clicked on Day 1, I was only 10 at the time but we Clicked probably better than any relationship I ever had with a human female afterwards.
'Spar' was in me Daza's eyes a big money bitch and a few 'Ready-Ups' were prepared, but she would handle fer no one except me, a few 'Money Trips' to Harolds Cross were arranged, always with me in the back seat beside Spar to comfort her, and she always did her duty bringing home the Bacon in Dooblin on Two occasions. Again she brought home the Bacon in Cork in the semi-final of a tournament where she was in Third place coming off the final bend only to see the slightest gap and she was through it and won the race, Unbelievably me Daza cheered her on so much that he lost his dentures over the wall of the race track !
And she went on to break the 'Hoodoo' of us not winning a final in 13 attempts by winning the final of that event. I was 10 years old and Spar was my Bitch, I Walked her, Groomed her, Fed and Watered her and often sat next to her talking shite in her kennel all night long and she was a Good Listener !

But as I didn't know at the time 'Spars' numbers were nearly up, as she had won a tournament her ratings were sky high and impossible to do any kind of Ready-Up job with, so she was raced as Class 1 fer a year or so mostly holding her own without Shining.
Her last race and I remember it well, she Broke down at the final bend howling in pain which was most unusual fer Spar to make any noise at all, I was in the center field after parading and trapping her and heading to collect her after the race, but after she broke down I ran back to the final bend, collected her in my arms and carried her to the vet station.
I remember me Auld fellas's words as we arrived at the Vet station, many kennel hands and stewards were on hand offering advice but he bellowed at them; "Get away from her, let only Ken near her". We brought a broken Spar home that night, I sat in her kennel fer most of the night, the next day she was gone !
40 Odd years on and I still miss that bitch.
