An Garda Síochána is responsible for lost property handed in by Small Public Service Vehicles (SPSV) operators. When property is handed in, it is held for a minimum of 31 days up to 366 days at the discretion of An Garda Síochána depending on the nature or value of the item, to allow the owner to reclaim it.

You should contact your local Garda Station who can advise you if it has been handed in to any Garda station.

The Gardaí have a better chance of retrieving your property if you can provide them with the licence number of the cab you were in – this is shown on your receipt.

If the item has not been handed in when you first make the enquiry, it may be worthwhile to ask again a week or so later, as the driver might not hand the item in immediately after it has been found.

The Gardaí will ask you for proof of identity before handing over any property.

I asked a Question here and nobody replied .Where is Bubba ? You find stuff it is not your stuff LEGALLY you must try to return it .We have the Garda dropp offs .But the Question I asked was what is our Legal requirement ? To drop it off as soon as we find it ?
Drop it off the next time we pass By
Drop if off when ever you feel like it .

There is a law of Larcny thru finding .If you do not make a reasonable effort to reunite the owner with the goods .In fact the Onus might legally be on you as the Finder to return the Goods to the owner at your expense as you do not own the goods .

I reckon it's 3 days to lodge lost property into a Garda station.  If you didn't hand it in & they could prove it, I'd imagine it's an standard taxi fine (e.g., €80?) rather than larceny.

arceny = Stealing.

Larceny by finding is when you find something and keep it without making any effort to locate the original owner.

Sometimes it is easy to find the owner — eg a wallet with name and/or address inside. Taking such a wallet after finding it is a clear case of larceny by theft.
Sometimes it is difficult or almost impossible to find the owner — eg finding a £10 note on the street. This should be reported to the police and the money will be yours after a given period if no one claims it. This is very rarely done and most people pocket the note thus committing larceny by finding.

A few times I have got calls from people saying I was in your taxi last night and I ldropped my phone in it.

I say I wasn't working last night. Oh.

Then they try to explain who dropped them home.
Rarely I might ask can you describe the taxi or driver? All you get is it was a man in his 60s....I think rofl

Make and colour of the taxi? Don't know.
That's about all the info myself and Rats got from the fella came on here years back looking fer his driver as he had left an expensive item in the cab, he told us he got the cab in Dublin and the male driver told him he lived in Cavan, and he thought it was a saloon car but didn't know colour or make or race of the driver.
That is all the info we got, but between myself and Ratcatcher we found the driver fer him and the Fooker never came back to say Thanks !

That doesnt surprise me, some people have never heard of manners.

I used to pass on numbers of other taxis to people who rang for one, if I was busy but I don't bother anymore unless asked because most dont even say thanks.

The strange thing about the second call I got was that the gentlemen explained that while NTA don't necessarily have any official remit in handling lost property they do assist the Gardai where possible.... the strange bit being that the only place I questioned NTAs remit in that regard was on this forum!
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

It's takes a lot of time, practice and patience but the NTA inspectors do eventually learn to read and write, albeit slowly.  So it is possible they read it on here?

I found a package wrapped in silver foil on the backseat one Christmas night, I opened it to find a large slice of chocolate gateaux, I don't know if I should have brought it to the Garda station or not ?  But it was the most beautiful chocolate gateaux I ever tasted !!
