Another member has done some work on Whistle and come up with some ridiculous posts on Face book by Whistle CEO if you have FB go to Ryanair Sittogeather page and watch John Boyle rant about Ryanair .No company in the State generates more work for taxi drivers than Ryanair .Almost every job going or coming from Terminal 1@ dublin airport is generated by Ryanair not to mention all the other work we get from visitors brought here by Ryanair .This Whistle app is dead in the water as long as this lad has anything to do with it .He says he wants to be CEO and wants 100K a year to run Whistle .I had considered investing a 50 but it would make more sense to give matches to a kid living in a straw house .
-
I'd say the HSE or the government themselves create more work than Ryanair Erm.
-
I'd say the HSE or the government themselves create more work than Ryanair Erm.
Could be right Vicci but I cant understand why somebody looking to promote Whistle would make comment Ryanair has never supported or promoted any app service but that could all change especially if Mick took the hump .As I said this lad is a liability to any app
-
That lad is a liability to himself Erm.
-
Their original 'Spoof ad' about the customer smashing the drivers Roofie was enough to turn me off them fer life.
-
That lad is a liability to himself Erm.
Not just himself Vic .He says he represents taxi drivers who own the app .If people think this is the best we can offer our reputation will be shit .
-
If you invested half a ton you would be a shareholder and, as such, presumably empowered to vote the current CEO out of office. Whether or not he has the skills necessary to run the firm successfully is certainly questionable given the litany of errors made thus far... releasing incomplete apps with zero tech support probably tops the list.
-
New message from Whistle looks like they are doing some kind of relaunch and the word Takeover appears in the message .I dont have the message personally but im sure somebody on here can post it .Vicci seems to be all over this app and knows more about it than most .
-
Too right I'm all over it. Keeping my eye on dodgy fuckers is a habit of mine.
Anyways, here's a screenshot of the message. Shocking altogether

Thanks VickI doubt it will be around long enough for all the investors to cover 100 jobs to cover their investment .Has anybody gotten any type of share certificate yet ?.Would such certs need to be registered ?How much does it cost to register as a Company shareholder ?Are there any tax liabilities or writeoffs available to shareholders ?
Here is my concern .What does this app offer to passengers that others dont .If it cant beat existing apps why would customers use it ? Without passengers there is no business .
-
Any work coming from the app ?
-
A few lads have got a few jobs, maybe 10 or 15.
I haven't a clue Erm. I never signed up. Looked dodgy from the start. Feel sorry for lads who ponied up money to now not have a say in being a "shareholder"
He sold it as a company so anyone who paid €50 can say bye bye to their €50 while Mr Boyle can now fly on Ryanair with his son beside him
-
I posted in another tread .If you are a shareholder are you liable for any company debts ? I would like to see a registry of Directors and know who the company secretary is and the legal status of the company and present financial statement before I bought in .
-
The legal status of the company is that it's a limited company. Limited to the current shareholder John Boyke
-
So the CoOp is a company? lol
I knew i should have invested in those buckets!!
-
It still only works on WIFI for me. On the in-app chat one driver said he's covered 60 jobs to date with another suggesting that's bull shit as he's had it on for two weeks and covered three jobs... so mixed reports.
Shareholders' liability is limited to their investment, in a nutshell that explains the concept of limited liability erm... something your LSE tutors clearly failed to do.
Any news on the meeting aimed at clarifying the corporate structure, Vikkiz?
-
No word yet on that meeting Rats.
All smells fishey, even if the message contains typos
-
Did they not say they had invested a sum of money already .So the question of liability is addressed to present debt Ie how long before investors would see a dividend .
-
The company is liable for current debt. Shareholders' liability is limited to their investment. Should the company become insolvent and be liquidated shareholders only lose what they've invested. Creditors would lose much of what they are owed.
-
Rodent we have no idea of what guarantees this company have offered their creditors this is why I asked about shareholder liabilities and registration of same .If personal guarantees by the company on behalf of the company were offered to creditors who might actually be shareholders in the company who invested share capital .That liability might be transferred to new shareholders .Be interesting to see an expenditure spreadsheet im sure a lot of capital has already been invested and it would not make any commercial sense to offer shares in the company and not have a recovery policy to recoup investment capital before shareholder dividends were dispersed .In fact it is not clear if the company intends to show a profit or just break even .If there are any trading surplussed how is it to be dealth with .Will it be shareholder dividends .Advertising or director bonus .Considering the potential of this idea you would expect a bit more effort being put into an investor shareholder prospectus .

It's registered as a limited company John.

Your waffle is just that waffle. Giving yourself the runaround for no reason at all
-
Regardless of what guarantees the company has offered, shareholders' liability is limited to their investment. We know that significant sums have been borrowed at extortionate rates of interest so I guess those who have loaned the money will understand that the prospective returns reflect perceived risk. Shareholders could be asked to invest more to keep the company afloat should that be deemed necessary.
However, it's important to stress that there is no evidence to suggest the company is in any sort of financial trouble. We are merely speculating. To the best of our knowledge the company is able to meet it's current liabilities including loan repayments and directors' fees and salaries.
-
Keeping it simple .In the far far long ago you bought credit for your phone and then you could make calls or send messages .Why did they not use this method and just say 50cent or a euro a job you buy the credit we supply the work .Put 50 in credit only pay 50c put 20 in credit you pay a euro .Not bother with shareholders or the likes just guarentee that the maximum charge would not exceed a euro . Even state that in 6,9 or twelve months the charge will be a euro per job .This prepay system works perfectly for paying tolls .Then if it was a success the investors would own it .I think looking for shareholders has complicated the issue .If they have an accurate app and good advertising drivers will work it no need to own something that isint worth owning .
I asked myself two question . Why would I want a share in this business .Why would passengers prefer to use this app over others ?
I couldnt see any reason to want to own any part of it other than later on to be encouraged to vote to increase the charges so I could collect a dividend .The only reason why some passengers might prefer this app is because they might think it is driver owned .That seems to be its only selling point as passengers pay full fares .If I was advising on this I would redesign the offering and not bother with shareholders just get it working where the benefits of any profits go to the investors and the motivation to make it work is profit .A pre purchased credit model is simplest.
-
Jesus Christ Erm. You need a fucking hobby. I got a headache just reading that, you must have a migraine typing it
-
Jesus Christ Erm. You need a fucking hobby. I got a headache just reading that, you must have a migraine typing it
Like yourself Vicci .I just wonder why complicate it .Just put drivers and customers to geather . You have Whistle issuing mail and Mytaxi love sending out crap .You never hear anybody complaining about the LYNK app they just do what it says on the tin .Dispatch Cabs .
-
You've answered the question in the question, erm. Being "the drivers own app" is a huge selling point. Whether there's a degree of truth in that or whether it's merely sales banter is unclear but a meeting outlining the corporate structure has been promised. What we have been told is that we can buy shares and that shares cannot be sold. That obviously raises more questions than answers, particularly given the dictatorial management style employed to date. For example, what happens to the shares owned by a shareholder who is subsequently banned for subscribing to ITDF or it's approved app, Flag... or indeed, for breaching the terms of any other instruction as may be issued by management?
-
Telling drivers what taxi apps they can't associate with win them loadsa drivers.
-
Shareholders are meant to have their share certificates issued (by the company/secretary) within a couple of months of buying shares.
There is stamp duty payable but wouldn't apply for people buying €50 worth. Shareholders only lose what they put in.
The Director/s may be liable for debts if they were found to be acting incorrectly (trading when insolvent), know as "lifting the corporate veil".
Any loans to the company, no matter how the agreement is worded will lose out if the company folds as revenue is first in line and if a company folds it would be unlikely that they would even be paid.
I did mention that it looked a bit dodge on another whistle thread.
This situation will make it almost impossible for any other driver app including 'eircab' to get any momentum as this mess will kill any trust or credibility.
Pity!
-
We don't really know what the "situation" is. The in-app chat/support suggests a highly successful launch despite negative feedback on the toy shop and despite the fact that the passenger app doesn't work on some networks/handsets and despite virtually non-existent technical support and despite the lack of clarity regarding corporate structure and despite the thuggish, dictatorial management style employed to date. If an app can prosper in those circumstances it should inspire rather than discourage alternatives. There's plenty of mistakes there to learn from.
-

From Whatsapp group
Guys !
5 important updates from Whistle . .
One - we are implementing our the top up system soon.
Two - we are going to ask all drivers to be shareholders who want to be part of this project.
Three - we are going to relaunch to the public with the 500 club.
Four - we will have a relaunch meeting where we will have an accountant to register all shares. This is going to involve extra cost. And the price per share may increase slightly to get this done. It is what many drivers want to see. A company not in anybody’s name. In your name and everyone else who is a shareholder.
Five - we will have a meeting for all drivers who are not happy about Whistle and they can come to ask questions. We will listen and answer all the questions with respect.
-
6. Rope them dopes up pronto, Mr Accountant.

What's the 500 club?
-
Whistle should consider sending out a message about those cheap Sumup readers so drivers can take card payments and they can advertise this to passengers .In fact it should be mandatory that Whistle drivers have CC facilities on board .Card payments are one of the big reasons passengers use apps ....Just Saying Like !!!
-
They could integrate Sumup with their app very easily... there's an API for that.
-
What's the 500 club?
Don't know....but i want/need to be in it!!

John Boyle! that's a blast from the past, didn't recognise him in the videos, he was more hirsute (even donned a ponytail) back when he was trying to protect the rights of the shit heap renters (he was a prime mover amongst the MPOs during the unregulated era) then tried to make a mint selling safety kits (that didn't work out too well) his name appearing on the handset was second only in the horror stakes to the Erm, his current war tactics against his competition goes against normal marketing rules but good luck to him with it.
-
Will they be shareholders in a partnership? Wonder if they're all jointly liable if they get sued? At least with a LTD company, it can go bust and the owners walk away owing nothing!
-
It's registered as a limited company.

Email from Whistle:
Try Whistle Taxi App first ! Why ?
The most available, not to mention most friendly taxi service in Dublin !
Good news . . Card payment now available in car ! Card 'in app' very soon !
Get the latest version of the app here - www.whistletaxiapp.com (http://www.whistletaxiapp.com)
Thanks and have a nice weekend from the Whistle Taxi App Team
Other info . . Just to let you all know, we have updated our app and we are growing in number over the last few weeks. We are being reported as the most available taxi service in Dublin. The Whistle Taxi App project has been set up and supported solely by the drivers themselves. We will bring back availability to you through our own app. Wait for our updates, we will show you cars soon to clear during busy times . . update next week :-)
-
I was supposed to be added to the What's App group but that hasn't happened. Any news on the meeting that was to take place this month?
-
Buckets at the ready!!
Nearly as exciting as Mytaxis commission free announcement!!
-
Might be significant that the "drivers own app" seems to have evolved into an app that's "supported solely by the drivers themselves".
-
How could you take any company seriously when their opening online advert was a disgruntled customer verbally
abusing a taxi driver over a legal 2Euro PUC, tearing off his roof-sign and smashing it to pieces in a public place ?
Whistle seem to take their lead from Kalinack, who indeed was probably the greatest Bull-shitter ever since
Jesus Christ himself !
Whistle: Buyer Beware.
-
I have not had 1 person in the car who has mentioned Whistle. They have zero brand awareness in my opinion.Has anyone even seen a roof sign with their logo on it.
-
I had one client mention it before Christmas. She enquired whether I was with Whistle or mytaxi so she could cancel the right one having hailo'd on both simultaneously. Aside from that I have seen some advertisements on the backs of buses up above in Dublin although they're often covered with a few layers of dirt.
-
Since operation Toners when the Rodent went in to see the Kid in the Dungeon and I wrote to him explaining the benifits of reintroducing the PUC the game is up .Mytaxi are the winners .According to a report in the paper they carried 4 million passengers in the last third of last year .That put an extra 8 million euro in drivers pockets .Hopefully the new CEO will listen to drivers as it has been proved we know the business best .Whistle have absolutely zero chance of breaking into the dispatch industry to a level where they cam become relevant .The idea was good but the team behind it were poor .
-
According to a report in the paper they carried 4 million passengers in the last third of last year .That put an extra 8 million euro in drivers pockets.
Don't forget that MyTaxi themselves made 960,000 by reintroducing the PUC
-
That was pointed out to them in the written submission Vicki both them and us would prosper from the reintroduction of the PUC and more drivers would cover the work .Before the PUC I covered about 10 jobs a week I at least double that now as long as the system is fair and jobs are offered to all I will work it .
-
Written submission mebollix.
-
Written submission mebollix.
John likes his T's dotted and his eyes crossed!!
-
I also pointed it out to them over 2 years that they could earn 24 cent on every job and they obviously ignored me for 2 years. All that lost extra income
-
The Rodent also discussed with them the possibility of maximum commission .They sort of did that with the latest promo no more commission after you do 36 jobs
-
Aye. After 36 jobs. I barely do 15 a week, if I'm unlucky
-
Is there a new boss in whistle now. Think his name is Conor

Don't know if this is driver/ punters, or both. 8)
-
There must be a free bar at the Whistle Inn tonight, got a text and a mail....FFS!
-
We are going to completely take over with our own app. I can feel it's going to happen, just like when Hailo started. You got long job offers, . . . then they got closer and closer. We will be the number 1 app company in Ireland. And we are the owners. No one else !
Hope you are all well.
John.
-
"We are not here to take part"
Did he translate that from the best seller Mein Kampf?
-
Dear John,

-
The recent q of taxies near Glasnevin was for the funeral of Whistle a good idea with bad management all the momentum has gone out of it .Launched when they were not ready poor app no card payments neither drivers or customers would be happy with something that at least didnt matches Mytaxies poor effort at designing an app .Pity but when the promoter gets more comments than the product the focus is all wrong .
-
Some people just want it to be all about them John.
-
Some people just want it to be all about them John.
That was the problem the app and the service should of been the focus not the promotor .With the exception of the Beatles and U2 nobody could name the managers of the most successfull bands no need to know the band is the focus .There is a lesson there for anybody trying to promote an idea .
-
Inanyways....did you get the mail re Whistle only driver?
Fukin ridiculous, asking drivers to limit their earning potential.
-

Whistle Only Driver ?
For those interested in working Whistle Only ! Send us an email saying “Whistle Only” and your PSV badge number to drivers@whistletaxiapp.com
We want to have a seperate meeting with you to tell you what we can do together.
The number one question customers ask Whistle drivers when you call them is . . “Are you Whistle or are you myTaxi?” This is proof customers will use your app to get you, if they need a taxi !
Credit Card Charges
We did not want drivers to absorb card handling charges. Due to recent EU law, we have to absorb these charges. Can Whistle get the best deal on the market ? The answer is “YES” We have an amazing deal of just 2%. The lowest rate in town. That is the power of us having our own App !
Examples . . .
€ 10 Fare with Whistle you get € 9.25 Other Apps € 8.80 € 20 Fare with Whistle you get € 19.10 Other Apps € 17.60 – save 1.50 !!! € 30 Fare with Whistle you get € 28.90 Other Apps € 26.40 – save 2.50 !!! If we all switched over to Whistle, we would save €3,900 per year. That’s an amazing €39,000 over 10 years. Plus we would have control of our industry.
Based on an average fare of 20 euro, 50 jobs per week. We would pay 45 euro per week for 1,000 euro worth of work ! And that includes card charges !!!
Registering Shares
As promised, all shareholders will be registered. We have been in touch with a number of accountants and company formation specialists. We have some good advice from one accountant he has said he would like to meet with us all. We are thinking to use this accountant as he was most informed and interested to help us.
Fuel Deal
We have a fuel deal for all drivers !!! We will send you an email about this next week.
Sign Up and Technical Help
Every Wednesday at the 2 sisters pub, 4 Wainsfort Drive, Terenure. 1pm - 4pm. We are not operating full time from an office. Remember lads, Whistle has been set up by us the drivers. There is no point in wasting our own money ! Did you all know, many customers tried us over the last weeks and could not get cars as we did not have drivers with the app on in their area. You never know about the jobs until you are logged on. Turn up to the meeting to find out more. Everyone is welcome !! We also want to hear what you want to say !
-
So everything is going up??? So much for THAT never happening with Whistle
-
Sumup are still charging me 1.95%. Put €17 through on 25th, €16.67 paid into my account on 31st.
"€ 10 Fare with Whistle you get € 9.25". I thought they charged €1/job?
-
The number one question customers ask Whistle drivers when you call them is . . “Are you Whistle or are you myTaxi?” This is proof customers will use your app to get you, if they need a taxi !
I woulda thought that's proof that they hailo'd on both apps and want to know which one they need to cancel.
-
JB doesn't know his arse from his elbow.
It's 50 cent for "shareholders" and €1 for non shareholders.
It was €50 to sign up and he then said it was going to go up to pay for more stuff.
Now Whistle is going to charge for processing credit cards.
Fucking joke if you ask me

So, how does a €10 fare get you €9.25?
€10 minus €0.50 = €9.50 minus €0.20 (2%) = €9.30
€10 minus €1.00 = €9.00 minus €0.20 (2%) = €8.80
With or without the 2% cc fee, neither rate of commission results in the payment suggested.

Same here with regards to SumUp..1.95%,
I haven't received any communication from them with regard to a hike in the rate.

Guys ! Reminder, sign up and tech help meeting today Wednesday 1pm - 4.30pm (every week) at the 2 Sisters Pub, Terenue. Comes up on Google ! Other info . . The number one complaint from the public about our App is availability. Lets think about this question. What is more important . . . To only turn on Whistle when we know it is very busy. if so how will it become busy if we don't take the offers that are coming through at the moment. OR . . Lets start turning on Whistle and take whatever jobs come in. Even if it is just 1 per day. All those customers are going to tell their friends to get you on your app too !!! We got 3 contracts for cash work. One, a busy hotel, a large public house and another pub. All 3 of them started to try us the day we approached them. Bad news was . . our drivers had not got the app turned on, and we could not cars to them. If everyone is ready, lets start to turn on the app and then we can show the public .. "We have enough taxis and serve them through your app." For your information, we miss over 1,000 jobs per week. We have less than 200 drivers on shift at any one time. If you have difficulty using the app, go to the 2 sisters this afternoon, and the lads will show you how it works ! Looking forward to seeing you, The Whistle Team

The 2 Sisters is very select. Proper order for a set of businessmen investing in shares, I suppose. That pub was a hangout for cops...worse than the Step Inn...except you could drink all night and drive without getting done.

Elon Musk is CEO of SpaceX. He recently boasted that a "fully expendable" version of it's latest rocket, Falcon Heavy, would have a launch cost of $150 million ... could be setting the tone for asking the shareholders to dig a bit deeper?

Whistle is dead and buried killed off before it got off the ground .The team behind it couldnt arrange to feed the Ducks in Stephens Green .Launched a crap app before it was ready or they had drivers or customers .
-
It has 2,000 drivers but it doesn't work on all mobile networks so it's always going to have less customers than mytaxi. For something set up on a low budget by a bloke with no managerial or technical expertise it hasn't done too bad and may well become a significant player in the PPJ dispatch market in due course. Don't forget Hail0 invested over US$100,000,000 and hadn't a pot to piss in when it was bailed out by mytaxi/Daimler.
-
how is mytaxi doing these days.
has it unknackered itself.
lot of unhappy punters moaning after it was rebranded from hailo.
-
It has 2,000 drivers ........
Don't forget to knock off the last Zero and then divide by Two fer the Real number !

Whistle is offering to buy any Taxi base in Eire fer 1,000Euro.
Anybody make any sense of that ?
Is it just another gimmick ? surely no taxi base owner would sell his business fer just 1K.

Technically, it's greatly improved... at least in theory. Customers seem to have got used to the new interface and there have been significant improvements to the driver app. In app navigation makes the job a lot easier (particularly for those who don't have great navigational skills or good command of the ENGLISH language) but it's not perfect by any means. The fact that it doesn't facilitate U Turns or recognise access to bus corridors creates problems with run in times given to clients. For example, I accepted a job from the Gate Theatre to Santry last night as I was idle on Berkley Rd. The initial run in displayed as 3 mins on my app but changed to 7 mins when I drove onto Frederick St North. Obviously the same information was given to the client as he, understandably, cancelled at that point. On balance the lower tech straight line calculations used by Hail0 probably worked better in practice. mytaxi's approach, while technically vastly superior, strives for a level of perfection that isn't achievable given inherent constraints in the real world.
There's still a plethora of relatively minor irritations with the driver app that ought to be addressed e.g. the mickey mouse fare input process and the long winded feedback routines for claiming no contact fees, etc.
-
Still a problem when you are offered a job and decline the trace to the pick up appears on your app .This allows for snatching by other drivers who have not accepted the job as it identifies the pick up point .
-
Has anyone on here covered a job on Whistle?
-
Has anyone on here covered a job on Whistle?
No
-
It only works on WIFI for me. I was going to use it to hail a cab up above in Dublin a while back but as I didn't have the WIFI key for the public house I was in I had to use mytaxi.
-
Has anyone on here covered a job on Whistle?
No...but no surprise really as i don't have the app!!
-
The problem with is was they launched it at the busiest time of year and there were no CC facilities you had to ring the customer to confirm they still wanted you .We are a simple lot we like matches you just strike them off the box they work simple we like lighters you press the trigger they work we dont use flint or rub two sticks together to light a smoke .If you are going to compete the app has to at least be as good as what is there already .The UBER app is probably the best why they didnt just copy that instead of complicating things .The idea was good the application let it down .
-
The launch was badly managed, without a doubt. Any web developer could have finished the app within a few days... but look at what has achieved despite piss poor management and piss poor tech - certainly grounds for optimism.
-
I'm surprised that Boyler ismt on here sharing his videographer skills. You should mention this place to him Rats.
Not sure if it was mentioned on here already but looks like the €50 to buy shares is to increase, they'll be charging 50 cent a job plus 2% for credit card work.
It makes flag look so much more attractive with it's 10% on first €50, then decreasing commission down to 6%. They'll not be taking any money from tips either
-

Dont know Rodent the selling point was Driver owned and that was messed up as well .I dont see it with any great future wont be throwing in my 50 .Interesting to see how Flag proposes to break into the market .
-
Whistle drivers aren't allowed to subscribe to Flag. I haven't heard from Richie for a while but when I last spoke with him he was busy planning a relaunch from an office on Upper Mount Street! Rumour has it that Dave (who drove the poofmobile for Hail0) is working for Richie now... maybe that explains the pink roof sign stickers!
-
Has anyone got the Flag app?....tell us ffs!!
-
I reckon a lot of his rentals are being hassled into turning on the app.So far though there's nothing that makes me want to see them succeed except for having a bit of badly needed competition. He has a reputation for not being very nice to deal with.I've never met him but I'm guessing it helps to be a bollix when extracting 250 notes from the rental lads every week.
-
I have it Hal, it's not operational at the moment AFAIK. Due to be relaunched any time now.

I'd like to see it succeed for the same reason as you allude to i.e. to bring competition to the PPJ market. If it is to succeed I don't think it will be under Boyle's stewardship. With the best will in the world it's difficult to see how shareholders could determine that he has the skills necessary to take the firm to the next level.

Never a good time to launch unless you have a bulletproof app but Mytaxi were a prime example of having a great app(Hailo)and still managed to fuk it up,luckily they had a few months to get it to a relatively mediocre app for Christmas but then drivers (except the bobo hunters)were hardly switching it on.

Adds a bit of sport to a night alright and puts a few shillings in drivers' pockets... hopefully one or two of the new applications will take off and encourage more bonus payments.

Nah...not chasing Mytaxi work is much more fun!!
They should know by now that Hal doesn't chase work nor does he drive kms to jobs...they're probably just sending them to me to try and annoy me....funny though..i'm never the closest to jobs right beside me but always the closest to jobs kms away, maybe if they adjusted their algorithm and reverse that trend i might bite!!

Anybody here in the whistle whats app group. There getting desperate. Stupid messages about driverless taxis and now flag. Getting very childish.
-
I've the Flag app. Got a job off it over the Xmas period. It was on trial before official launch. To iron out the issues with it. They have been working away behind the scenes and ready to launch soon.
The latest from JB is just ridiculous with the latest away track on Flag. If he spent more time on his own app and getting it sorted maybe more folk would be interested in signing up.
He seems like a right fucking tool with his videos, some avec specs and some without specs
-
Conor said he'd get Julie to add me to the What's App group a while back but that never happened. Google has become the biggest player in the development of driverless cars. Whistle, like most taxi apps, uses Google APIs hence it is as instrumental in destroying our trade as any other firm.

1. If Whistle works for you (only works on WIFI for me) it makes sense to sign up to Whistle Only, you get priority for sending an email. Sure if you're caught working other apps and get fukked out you're only going to lose a job or two a week and if you're a shareholder you can wreak revenge when it comes to re(electing) the board of directors.
2. It claimed to have paid €30k+ for a piss poor app that it doesn't own or control.

I'm not interested in offering discounts in the current economic climate.

Add €2 booking fee....but discount €2 off the fare...just so people know the booking fee still applies!!
There's obviously a method in his madness.

Full semi-literate email:
Announcement !!
Starting today at 19:00 (7pm)
2 euro off promo to our customers !!
Remember add the booking fee and deduct 2 euro off the fare total.
It’s our way of saying “THANK YOU” to the customers for using our App.
Whistle is commission free until further notice ! You just have to pay a very small 2% card processing fee.
You can tell the customers that is how we can afford to do this right now.
You only have to pay a card processing fee of 2%.
That is €6 for €300 work. That is all you have to pay towards Whistle lads.
This is an incentive to let customers try our app. It suits will suit all the Pro-Whistle drivers. You have been pushing Whistle on behalf of all drivers. The “Whistle Only” drivers deserve more work. Question: Will this be reversed once we get some work happening? Yes!
Drivers who want to delete Whistle can do so now. There are other drivers asking for more work. Drivers who leave themselves available “only” on Whistle deserve more work.
You can listen in to Newstalk at 6pm, as I am being interviewed about Whistle then.
Remember lads, this spreads a lot of good will to the customers for trying us.
Yours sincerely,
John

It's the right way to do it - and what Hail0 should have done - but there's no justification for it in the current economic climate.

One would assume it has the support of Whistle (Only) drivers. However my "way of saying 'THANK YOU' to the customers" is by... well... saying thank you!
-
It hasent got a chance of success .Uber threw millions into drivers pockets and Drivers Gave Hailo /Mytaxi tens of millions in good will by not charging PUC or waiting time .They have a crap app changing offers to drivers on an hourly basis .The idea was good but the promotion and implementation was a disaster .The moment is gone .
-
The offers change depending on which gargle is being served at the Whistle Inn....that's bleedin obvious!!
-
Did he really say drivers can now delete the app if they want? What the fuk type of tablets is he taking. You can only act like a kunt when yer ahead of the competition by miles.Pro whistle drivers mebollix.Sounds like another priority setup.

Not really Hal ..Dont think this lad understands the taxi app business .It has nothing to do with earning money from dispatching taxies its about gathering data for driverless vehicles if they ever happen .UBER have been around about 8 years and have millions of drivers and never made a profit Hailo went bang in most countries and got bailed out by Daimlers billions when Mytaxi bought them out .Take Mytaxies 12% commission about 2% of that always went to CC charges we always paid that, that leaves them with 10% I would suggest that goes on driver bonus payments advertising and the overpaid tech staff who couldnt change a bulb in a flashlight then the rent on the Dungeon and the staff .I doubt they have ever shown a trading profit .What they want to know is how long and how much it takes to get from any destination in Ireland or whatever country they operate in to any other destination at every time during the day .So if you order a driverless car or even one of them go cars as they will operate them as well you put in the Pick up point and the drop off point and they will tell you how much you have to pay .Taxi apps like Mytaxi UBER or Lyft are just harvesting data on behalf of the big car manufacturers just in case they ever go driverless they dont need to make a profit just break even .There is no taxi app business there is a taxi app process it only wants to build a data base as security against any other car manufacturer gaining an advantage Toyota ,Volvo Daimler have all paired up with the big taxi app players .
If I added up all the Bonus payments I got and subtracted it from all the commission I paid I doubt I paid more than 50C a job over the lifetime of my Hailo/Mytaxi work The big payment was no PUC
-
I listened to the wireless programme in the cab, having started work at 18:13. It wasn't good. The young lady interviewing him tried to find out what he meant by the drivers having their own app (don't they have an app for every app firm, etc). While he kept using the phrase he didn't explain what he meant, no mention of a co-op. Just some gibberish about it being set up by 5 drivers and all the drivers that have joined since (c.2,000) donating €50. As an aside, I enjoyed the piece about the sports tech firm with sensors gathering/analysing a wide range of data from players of various games including rugby, soccer, football, hurling, NBA, NFL, MLB, etc... great to see yet another innovative Irish firm leading the way in a global marketplace.

They all rely on Google for tech and, as such, share their data with Google... Coincidentally Google is leading the way in the development of driverless cars.

Remember the lads in Hailo said that drivers agreed/voted to drop the PUC.I wonder if they're the same lads who offered to drop the PUC in Whistle. They won't get enough drivers onboard if they come across as dirty discounters IMO.

It was a vote. 9x% in favour, so I was told by loadsamoney (Dermot). That was back when the three double jobbers thought drivers needed them more than they needed drivers. Driver relations have improved now that two of the three are gone, I haven't heard of any drivers being threatened/sacked for contributing to fora since... of course the goalposts have shifted somewhat.

Initially it was a yeah but no but yeah but no but policy... resolved by drivers voting to drop the PUC, if you believe a word that came out of the double jobbers' mouths.

Just regretting not having 'eircab' ready sooner, got caught out, but still watching and learning in case it goes tits up.
Still, drivers for drivers, so I don't want to muddle the picture if 'Whistle' has a chance, the current MD may be delusional, but I would say the drivers that have signed up want it to work.
If they really got 2k drivers signed up and are as shambolic as they seem, hope for all!
Only problem with that is drivers and public will have had a negative experience and may be reluctant to try again.
Don't want to be entirely negative, they seem to be on a sharp learning curve and hopefully learning along the way.
At least some one has copped the share anomaly bullshit (at the start) and is trying to sort it.
So if it is genuinely a driver owned app then drivers can replace management at some future point (AGM or EGM), if the current crowd don't learn and adapt.

Whom exactly is in Mount street these days ?
I thought MyTaxi 'Merged' with Hailo and took over the Mount street premises.
Now it seems Flag (to include Dave from Hailo are in the gaff).
-
The latest ramblings from JB
Union, eh? "Co-op" seems to have been deleted from his vocabulary.
His vocabulary seems very limited or as limited as it should be when your
selling a shite product to customers who probably don't even want it.
-
Remember the lads in Hailo said that drivers agreed/voted to drop the PUC.I wonder if they're the same lads who offered to drop the PUC in Whistle. They won't get enough drivers onboard if they come across as dirty discounters IMO.
To be fair to old Hailo (or new Dave on Flag) they weren't the best at telling
the truth, actually if'n Hailo had ever told us the truth, then most likely the
ground would have opened up and swallowed them !
Ye Dooblin drivers are gonna be 'Pinky-Ponky' in the eyes if'n ye are trying to
operate about 5 app's at the same time whilst also trying to drive the cab.
Ye have MyTaxi, Lyft, Uber and Whistle and Flag about to start up.
Most thankfully we have just the one app down here in Cork,
MyTaxi, and it does just fine.
-
Just regretting not having 'eircab' ready sooner, got caught out, but still watching and learning in case it goes tits up.
U Wha I met with people from Amazon about two years ago I posted it on Roys .They said the problem with a taxi app was taxi drivers .Look at the feedback on Hailo /Mytaxi/UBER/Whistle/Vinny /Citycabs and just wait till Flag gets up and running .Taxi drivers like football supporters like their own team and see everyone else as the enemy .I just do not understand why you think that a stand alone taxi hailing app could be profitable .Look at the evidence none of the big players turn a profit from taxi hailing they are all diversifying into food or parcel delivery and the big players all have the backing of BILLIONS of dollars of investor debt to sustain them .
Go to a website called owler and get all the latest info on all the major taxi apps .
-
I was referring to Mytaxi but any sort of price war will not be welcomed. As a group we have no need to give discounts. The work will come anyway.Competition is great except when we're being asked to work for less than meter by some knob in a tie who doesn't drive a taxi.
-
I posted on here I am NOT in favour of competition amongst APP companies as the metered fare is the only discount tool and that comes straight out of drivers pockets A lot of drivers want more competition but that competition will be at your expense .If an app wants support they need to keep it simple limit waiting time full fares and nearest car gets the fare .That is all drivers want a level playing field no ambassador or priority shit just reward for effort .The app that looks after the driver as its priority gets the drivers the app with the drivers gets the customers its so simple but so hard for app promoters to understand .Give a kid a marketing degree or a business degree and they will market the good out of the business .No substitute for common sense ever appeared on a College Conferment .

I'm not sure if shares carry voting rights, UW. All we've been told about the shares is that they can't be sold.
-
Also as John m previously pointed out, if punters have 3 or 4 hailing apps on their phone, at busy times they will use them all simultaneously and jump into the first car that arrives, leaving the others with no contacts....
It’s difficult enough to drive safely with one app, it would be hazardous to have two or three running when on the move
-
I'd be reluctant to run more than two on one device. Regardless of how good your phone or internet is they all draw on resources and slow each other down to some extent. At the moment Uber and mytaxi are the only ones paying no contact fees.

LATEST FROM WHISTLE WHAT A FUCKING MUPPETT ..Hi Lads,
I made a mistake by offering the 2 euro offr.
It is for the next 3 weeks. But I think we will have to cancel it. Drivers just don't want it. I made a big mistake by not consulting drivers more.
There were some radio adverts letting people know about the promo. I put in a request in now to change the advert to the Christams adverts.
Please accept my apology. I was just trying to help. I thought getting more customers would help us in this project. Now I see that it is just the wrong message to send to the public. Am I forgiven?

Well, is he forgiven John?
-
You have to give him credit for admitting he fukked up.Hailo/Mytaxi messed up but kept the mistake going for years until drivers switched off the app.He should have a camera crew following him around for the laugh.I'd feel sorry for him if he didn't own a rake of plates.Maybe.
-
I'd feel sorry for him if he wasn't on 2 grand a week plus expenses. Easy for him to make the drivers who pay his wages discount their services.
-
Well, is he forgiven John?
He must be twins ,no 1 man could be that dumb .

Still not sure whether I want to buy a share or not so I sent an email seeking some clarification:
Hi,
Thank your for offering me the opportunity to buy a share in Whistle.
I would be obliged if you could clarify the following:
How many, if any, shares are held by external investors - including shares of all classes?
How many shareholders, if any, hold more than one share - including shares of all classes?
Are shares offered to drivers classed as ordinary shares or something else?
Do shares offered to drivers carry normal voting rights, particularly the right to vote on resolutions re(appointing) the board of directors and other officials in AGM/EGM?
If I buy a share and subsequently get banned from the app, what happens to my share?
Regards,
Stephen.

When it's busy....most drivers have apps switched off,i think at the moment the main app doesn't show any loyalty to drivers so that favour is returned at busy times,Uber being account only, their customers tend to wait for the car to arrive.

Very childish trying to ban srivers from.using other apps
His app has no work so what do we do starve till he tskes off?
Besides who want to start giving puc away again?
He does without our consent
The taxi dictator ye
Its his app not a driver app so time to delete it
Mytaxi hav puc and I dont give the 5 min waiting time so il hang on there for a while till a REAL drivers app appears
-
Any driver app will have the same problems. Drivers who support it, travelling for work or looking after passengers at peak hours, deserve to be rewarded in some way. Similarly, there has to be rules and regulations so it's inevitable that some drivers will be excluded. It's reasonable that any driver co-op should aspire to be the dominant platform but, in reality, I don't think that's what drivers want. Having seen how Hail0 abused it's dominant position (e.g. sacking Marto Taximan for contributing to a forum and manipulating/threatening other fora contributors) it's reasonable for drivers to conclude that competition among app providers is better than having all their eggs in one basket.
-
Its run by a dope it doomed
A step backwards him expecting us to hand back puc
I know he pulled back but he did try it so shows how he thinks riding us all again
And hes trying to get u to use his app exclusively

Whistle Taxi APP © 2018
Was that a real message sent out John M ?
It seems hard to fathom such a Fook-up and U-turn.
But Fair Dinkum to the man fer holding his hand up, Hailo/MyTaxi never did that.
I don't think Mr Boyle really understands what he is dealing with, on one side he
has the general public, on the other he has Irish Taxi drivers, neither of whom are
a very forgiving lot, the customers want the cheapest fares, the drivers want the
best and most lucrative work.
The simple solution is to just stick by the NTA approved fare card including all extras
and then the drivers just might work with them, no driver in today's game has any
interest in discounted fares.
-
I got the same message so I assume it's real. A welcome one, IMO, as I wouldn't have covered any discounted work - not that I can cover any work as the app only works on WIFI for me.
Good questions Stephen and a pathetic response from Whistle, if they really are a drivers app fer drivers or a Union as Mr Boyle likes to claim, then surely this information should be made public to all drivers.
Full T&Cs should be published on the firm's website in this day and age. The lack of clarity surrounding the corporate structure undoubtedly discourages drivers. However, John is obviously a control freak so I'm guessing the structure aims to secure his position as MD for as long as possible but I may be wrong. I guess John's use of the word Union where Co-op would be a better fit is apt as our unions traditionally hate to share information.
Being the "drivers own app" only holds weight if drivers are empowered to replace directors/officials as they see fit. I did see this as being the firm's USP until I asked Mrs. Catcher to have a shirt ready for me this morning so I could drop over to the West County. Obviously, she asked why I was going all the way over there so I explained the meeting of Whistle colleagues/competitors and she said she had heard their advertisements on the wireless offering the opinion that they are "rubbish"... You should see the emails, says I, you'd wear your red biro out!

I'm not sure if shares carry voting rights, UW. All we've been told about the shares is that they can't be sold.
Still have concerns over the shares, as far as I know you can't have non transferable shares, defeats the purpose of them. Whats the point, unlikely the company would buy them back, ever. I think he wanted to prevent drivers shares being bought up by hostile parties, who, when they had enough would own a controlling interest. Didn't that sort of happen with NRC over the years?. He should get legal advice and maybe rephrase to a once off membership fee. That would cover your concern about drivers that are removed.
Pity to see it floundering. I went in at the start and told John that I had a similar idea and rather than compete, we could work together to create a genuine driver owned app and no contact after that.
-
Found this link that reaffirmed what I thought.
http://www.fmaccountants.ie/transfer-of-shares-in-a-private-company/ (http://www.fmaccountants.ie/transfer-of-shares-in-a-private-company/)
What is a Share?
A share can be described as an intangible accumulation of rights, interests and obligations. The reason companies issue shares is to allow the company raise funds to carry out its activities and make a return for its members. It also allows the ownership to change in a company.
Different share classes may have different rights so it is very important to review the articles of association to understand the rights attached to the shares.
Ordinary shares usually (but never assume!!) have the following rights:
A right to attend and vote at general meetings
A right to a proportion of the profits of a company – dividend
A right to the capital surplus on winding up
A right to notice & information from Company
What I understand that to mean is that Directors can only block the transfer of shares if it is deemed to be in the best interest of the company, ie: a hostile takeover.
Shareholders at an EGM or AGM should have the ability to vote in/out directors and introduce a resolution to be voted upon by shareholders at the AGM/EGM.
So to clarify the above you should seek to see Whistles Memorandum and Articles of Association or its Constitution, as it is called now for new companies.
Might pop out to the meeting meself next week.
-
I'll be the one outside with the bucket collecting the niftys!!
See ya there!!
-
Bought a copy of the constitution from the CRO... attached below
So looks like there was only 100 x €1 shares issued when the company was setup (normal) and it has an authorized share capital of 1,000,000 x €1 shares (not issued yet). So does the €50 buy 50 x €1 shares?
Interested to ask or see how the shares are being registered and is the correct process in place as mentioned in the link on my last post.

For some reason I thought it was today... anyway, when I realised I was over the southside so I dropped into the erm for a coffee and attended to some personal business up above in Dublin on the way home, although that could have waited 'till next week.

it's pretty unlikely that he can find his way around the very complex world of Shares.

It's ambiguous at best. We're told that shares can't be sold yet there seems to be some suggestion that the ultimate objective is to sell the firm to realise value from the data it generates - as a form of redundancy payments for drivers as autonomous vehicles take over. Of course, the data is already shared with Google so is unlikely to have much value in itself but the firm could develop into a takeover target for a multinational if it achieves significant market penetration.
-
That's a big if not Huge IF !
I heard a radio ad on 4FM at about 4am last Sunday morning still offering the 2Euro discount,
Five days after the ad's had seemingly been discontinued !

Where did he get the idea that drivers wanted to own it .If he just said a yoyo a job nearest car gets first refusal it might of worked .I doubt there are a dozen drivers in the country if asked to list what is the most important thing you look for in a taxi dispatch app would say I need to own it .If Whistle was a Dog a Vet would put it out of its misery .
-
I reckon most that paid fifty for a share would have coughed up if he just called it a sign up fee, credited against future commission at €0.72/job (inc VAT). However, being the drivers own app is it's USP.

I put in a request in now to change the advert to the Christams adverts.

I did a basic and limited survey for eircab about what drivers might want from their own app. Ownership, influence or a say seemed to be a big part of it. With transparency and fairness a close runner. I will see if I can get a sharable link. But it wasn't a huge sample of drivers. It was a first draft with the intention of refining and expanding it to create a better survey.

Anyone heard if the Whistle meeting is still on tomorrow?

I bet there's mean cunts out there that'll take it, too. Drivers out risking life and limb to put bread and milk on the table and shoes on their childers feet and there'll still be riders happy to save €2.... might use it myself if I go to the pub tonight for a nice ice cold beer and save a couple of coins.

I posted a few questions (as below) in the app, as per email instruction - I'll let yis know if/when I get any response.
-
All good questions...but that's what the meeting is for!!
-
I know but the meeting is cancelled. I forgot that other drivers can answer my questions in the app... just remembered when the email reminded me.

Whistle Taxi APP © 2018
What happened to this ?
-
Finishes in 9 days.
-
Getting the feeling that Whistle ain't going to work out in long run.
It may survive but not as a driver owned app.
If it is going south the investors will probably step in and try to protect their investment.
Remove any incompetent or inexperienced people and try to continue as a commercial (non driver owned) entity.
I take the point made in various threads that either way it is all good for drivers as whistle and flags existence creates competition and better deals for drivers in the short term.
In the long term, survival of the fittest, some apps will sink and it will return to one or two dominant players who dominate and control a large proportion of taxi drivers work. If you don't like the idea of an app or the policies of an app. Then you are blocked from accessing that portion of the work.
When the economic cycle swings back the other way, (and it will, experts say the economic cycles used to run every 8 to 10 years but with the speed of communication, the internet, a smaller world these economic cycles will tighten up to around every 5 or 6 years). The apps will be back in control.
The lessons I have picked up for eircab are:
- Hire a PR firm to communicate with media and the public on the driver apps behalf.
- No discounts.. ever!
- Capped Weekly Commission
- Nearest car
I agree with all of these and they could work long term as long as the driver app was a dominant player, (driver support). If drivers continue to play the field, as they are fully entitled to do, but would work against their own interests in the long term if they are owners members of a co-op.
- The No Discount can work long term too if drivers support their own app.
If another app offers discounts and a driver needs or wants that work then that is where the punters will go. If 'the' driver app dominates and controls a large portion of the trade then the punters would go there because they will be sure of a car and the discount won't matter. Which is proven in today's market, shortage of drivers at busy times and no complaints about discounts they just want a car. This will change eventually as the economic cycle moves.
- The only issue I see with nearest car is that corporate customers would have concerns that some jobs may not be covered (and it happens). A valid concern for them as it could affect their business.
As for control of the data, in short term google would have access to the driver app data . However if the app is successful it could invest in protecting its own mapping data if the members decide that is it a viable option and worth doing. The data will have a value in the future if the app is a dominant player in the market.
So the key to the success of the driver app or any other app is driver support. Convincing them that in the long term supporting their own app makes sense. Being played like pawns by other apps with this offer and that offer are all short term. When one or other of the apps gains control or market conditions change that will all stop and they will call the tunes.

I'm not sure that a dominant app is a good thing, even if it is driver owned. Drivers experienced bullying from Hail0 back when Dave and loadsamoney (Dermot) thought they controlled drivers' ability to earn a living. What's to say you wouldn't end up with another couple of idiots doing the same thing in a Co-Op? Of course, the dictatorial management style employed within Whistle does nothing to promote the cause.

That is a valid point and it does happen especially in committee type volunteer environments, credit unions are a prime example. 1000's of members but only a tiny proportion of members have any interest in the day to day as long as it works. It is something that I have thought about but more from the view point of members trying to slowly take control of the shares rather than egotistical control freaks, but same idea. The initial provisional committee of eircab (until 1st AGM) could get in touch with the GAA, Irish League of Credit Unions and Co-operative umbrella groups on how best to protect against that.
My belief is that the driver app co-op would need to have a volunteer driver board (possibly with other non-voting industry stakeholders represented on it). That board would eventually hire a executive team to run the show. No members or former members , myself included are allowed to take up executive positions. The executive team would carry out the policies decided and voted on by the Board or members at an AGM.

The hailO lads thinking they controlled drivers ability to earn, at that point, did they control it?
In one of my previous posts I mentioned the economic cycles and different market conditions could lead to that situation again. At that time there was an oversupply of drivers, a recession that resulted in less people using taxis , so hailO in effect did control the ability to earn but they could have been more subtle or tactful about it.
I promise you myTaxi won't make those mistakes again, at least with the personalities, they have learnt and evolved. At some point the tables will turn again and they will control the work and ability to earn but will be more professional about it.
Convinces me more that driver members shouldn't run it day to day.

I think mytaxi driver relations improved considerably when Dave and loadsamoney (Dermot) parted company with the firm. Senior management consult with drivers these days. In fact, IMO, it's a firm drivers can work with going forward. The future will bring change, a lot of that change won't be beneficial to the taxi trade but drivers will have to learn to adapt to secure their place in that future. We can't and won't halt progress!
There will be another recession, that's as certain as night following day. If we're honest, Paddies haven't done a great job with the economy since taking control of the free State and this Govt is no different. Boom/bust economics seems to be all we're capable of. When recession hits is when drivers will regret giving control of their work to commercial firms. While the economy is booming and we're all earning a few notes we don't give a fuck.

But we'll have social meeja to vent....we're good at that!!
Keep the overheads low and the next recession will be a doddle.

"We are still commission free, with only 2% on card jobs"
Bit of an oxymoron but cheaper than mytaxi's 12% (+€2 on hotel/pub/car hire return shed jobs).
