Fair play for the honest earnings report Roy.It can only get worse if we all come back together.

It costs an owner-drivers least €200 a week to break even and as we're considered an essential service they may offer some assistance on top of any taxi earnings.Or alternatively some more extensions on age rules to make things easier for those that need it.

Hard to imagine they'll ignore the trade (both drivers and bosses) telling them that we're incompatible with "the new normal". Surely the focus, going forward, must be to remove any and all reliance on the trade as an essential service. Alternatives such as car pooling, electric scooters, (electric) rickshaws and (electric) bicycles must be worthy of promotion in that regard. Similarly, it might make sense to encourage/develop a P2P solution for hospital patient transfers, maybe even on a voluntary basis like the blood bikes. Who knows, Uber / Free Now / Lyft / et al might offer it as a loss leader to get P2P rideshare generally licensed?
If it doesn't have a roof sign and door stickers it's not a taxi.

I rarely exceed 20 hours a week, I doubt I'd cover my PUP on that...

I don't do a whole lot myself, without the early morning bookings to get me up I'm as lazy as the next bloke (I've about 1 booking a day this week, all in the afternoon apart from a 5am on Friday)
I accept FN jobs from my desk at home and head home again after doing it, last week I rarely made it home, today and yesterday that hasn't been an issue.
I think the Government "don't go abroad thing is working, hopeful the "green list" might stir it up a little.

Was looking at cottages near the beach in Ireland for first 2 weeks in Sept, hardly one to be found that's not booked out, staycations are where it's at!

^^^^ RC There's already an electrically assisted bike scheme in Dulbin. We already have electrically assisted rickshaws and it's looking likely the e scooters will be allowed with some driving licence requirement like the UK.No doubt Freenow and Uber will be trying to get in on that business.

If you've seen Dublin city centre recently it's clear the policy is very anti car. They've installed bollard things on the bicycle lanes around Phibsborough and on the quays that separate the road traffic form the pedal traffic.Only problem is we can't stop safely there of we're flagged down.Nobody seems bothered now but when we're back they're gonna be an issue.

Going to Glengarrif (booked) for a few days in August myself and possibly on to Kenmare for another few days but it's not cheap. You'd easily get a couple of weeks in Spain for the rate. TBH, I'm not even that bothered about going, sure I've been on staycation for months now!

Putting it off until I see whats happening with the Pubs, I'm not going on holidays in Ireland if I can't go into a pub and just drink, I'll probably take my chances in Spain

Hopefully the pubs will still be open. Hard to have any confidence in that though... in my experience social distancing is a foreign concept as far as bars are concerned. Two aspects, in particular, that are beoing overlooked are the main recommendation i.e. avoid crowds and the physical distancing suggestion.

Don't go to Cornwall for your hols!  Cornish drinkers catch a different kind of buzz as pub installs electric fence at bar

Quote
Well, in current affairs, we have fuse for drinkers hoping to trouble The Star Inn in St Just for a bevvy. CornwallLive reports that staff had grown so tired of punters ignoring the recommendations (2m apart) that they felt the need to give them a friendly jolt.

A polite notice now warns customers not to get too close to each other or staff – along with a "fully wired and charged" electric fence.

Landlord Johnny McFadden told the news site: "It's there for social distancing. Before the fence, people were not following social distancing and were doing as they pleased, but now people take heed to the guidance around social distancing. It's for everybody's benefit."
Getting old is compulsory whilst growing up is voluntary.

Fortunately the pubs that have been open can continue to trade. It's just those that don't (want to) serve food that have to wait a little longer.
